| I would like to hear from anyone that has imported a car (getting Mexican title and plates) recently. I have heard that fees have risen. I understand that the car has to be exactly 10 years old. Can anyone recommend an import broker in Nogales?

I did not get any results from searching. I did find out that the rules changed in March 08 so that only cars exactly 10 years old are allowed. That seems like a very odd rule but that is the way it is. I found other articles that indicated imports are way down this year because of fees but I cannot find what the fees are. Was hoping someone had recent experience.

Somebody in Mazatlan posted on Mexconnect this morning that friends have just imported a 10 year old pickup but were kept waiting at the border for 10 days while the paper work was taken care of and that the fees were around 15,000 pesos.
A law firm in the area in which we now live, the Lake Chapala area, is saying that imports are being stopped altogether due to Katrina flood vehicles finding their way into the country - they are a normally reliable source but I have nothing written to cite for this information.

I would check with Salazar Brokers in Naco Son. Ask for David, he speaks English.
Their number is 633-334-0427. I use them for exporting and importing.
I am sure you can find the name of some brokers in Nogales Az or Nogales Son. The cost will probably be the same, I just use Naco as my crossing point.
I have heard the costs have really gone up. You will need to have the make, model, and year in hand when you call as they usually don't throw out ball park prices.

| At one point, they only allowed old cars to cut down on newer stolen vehicles coming in, at another point they only allowed new vehicles to keep junkers out so I guess 10 years is the exact balance, too old to steal, too new to die.

| Joffroys in Nogales does a great job imprting for you. They make is painless. Just give them a call or stop by their offices on the arizona side of the border near the truck crossing. Marcelo is who you want to speak with.
