Well, hopefully I'm not setting myself up for another toosh whooping, but in the defense of Jimena, here we go. Hurricanes aren't all bad. Well definitely there are some of us that got whipped pretty badly and we all feel their losses. There were and are some pretty hefty financial tolls being taken by some, and our normally boring September is now going to be a sweat filled labor fest (and we might not smell too good either). The town took some heavy destructive financial losses in many areas. Most people got off pretty easy and should be counting their blessings.
It was definitely something that we will remember for a lifetime. Admist all the destruction though, don't forget to count the blessings. I've heard so many people remark lately about the camraderie and outpouring of support among everyone in town. I never thought I'd be clearing rocks in the Ranchitos with strangers to create the only bypass in town. In a way it definitely brings out our community, brings us together, and helps us grow. I never saw so many smiles after the storm (maybe less Bart and Carl). Maybe once the bars re-open we can find some humor in things again. Next time we will be a little wiser hopefully (we'll definitely be scrutinizing building sites and practices a little closer). Everyday it is great to see the progress we are making. Some things will take some time, and somethings we may just have to learn to live with. Jimena will leave us with some souveneirs, and maybe we'll never see anything again like it in our lifetime. Maybe we'll never freely complain again about needing a storm to solve the summer fishing doldrums!
It was definitely humbling to have to live without electricity, communications, and water for a few days. Even transportation was something we had to learn to live without. In a way it's good to be reminded of those perspectives of the things we take for granted and the ways we live. You never knew you had so many friends in town until after the storm. Everyday look at the progress being made and realize all that we have built up here. There is intense work out there, so get down here and lend a hand. Hey, at least we all have work now.
Also enjoy the beauty of the earth recovering on its own. You might just see destruction on the surface, but in many ways the storm was a very natural and healthy event. Even today I could see the beaches reforming. The cows are sure going to be happy soon! If you missed the greenery after last year's tropical storm, it was amazing. You never knew that San Carlos was such a beautiful place. There will be intense bug life, both beautiful ... and annoying. The ocean will clean up and come alive. Jimena shook off summer with a bang. Everyone come down and pitch in and we can soon enjoy the best time of the year! Help out and just don't be a tourist.
And we did have epic waveriding in the estuary on our kayaks on Wednesday, getting blown back through the mangroves in a downpour at dusk. Little did we know that that was just the beginning!
My condolences to all those who hate Jimena with a passion. They win every time, but we can still get back at her by turning her destruction into blessings.
Vaya con dios,
Bryan

Sorry, they had a number of responses on another thread that they seemingly 'took over'. They've got the best breakwall and roofs around! Sorry for poking fun at their concern. The storm even helped them blast off some of the poor paint job they're replacing (maybe they'll not see it that way).
Yes, I've got the kayak rentals down there, Margarita Sportfishing, work at ReMax, and my fiance is an owner of Ruby's. Have checked dozens of properties in the last few days. Even Costa del Mar is looking habitable now. I am a little scared to start digging into a few friends' storage units tomorrow. I haven't had to deal with it yet, but some running water should would be nice to clean things with!
Check vivasancarlos for what Tammi from ERA is asking for people to bring down. I'm sure donations of any type are welcome. Sham-Wow should have been down here.
Put some time in and then you can go fishing. There were a few reports today.
