Surface Time and the San Carlos community would like to wish Miki Bultman the best on her new adventure at St. Thomas. We'll miss you Miki!
Surface Time would like to welcome and congratulate our new staff: Instructor Lindsay Wedepohl, Instructor Fausto Guerrero, Instructor Memo Gil, and Instructor Javier Munoz! Last weekend we participated in Instructor training and Advanced Open Water training. Log on to Surfacetime.com and see the wide variety of courses that we offer. Don't wait, contact us today!
Fri., Aug. 31, 2007........Night Dive (7:30 p.m.)
dive site.......................face (east wall) of Catalina Island
conditions....................calm and clear
temp............................88 at surface, 86 at depths
visibility........................15-20 ft.
max depth....................55 ft.
Lindsay, Fausto and Mike earned their Night Dive Instructor Specialties. Karla, Fausto's wife, and Ellie's student, Rachel had their first night dive and loved it! They were a little apprehensive at first, but were cool and calm in the water, and upon surfacing, were bursting with excitement!
Here is some of what we saw.......huge lobsters on the rocks, many sleepy parrotfish, an anemone crab roaming the bottom........and on the swim back to the boat the stars and Milky Way were at full brightness!
Sat., Sept. 1, 2007..........Digital Underwater Photography Instructor Specialty
dive site..........................Window on the west side of San Pedro Nolasco
conditions.......................calm, with lots of current and thermoclines
temp...............................88 at surface, and a chilly 70 at depths!
visibility...........................60 ft.
max depth.......................65 ft.
Fausto and Mike had a good time snapping photos of scissortail damsels, clarion angels, long-spine porcupinefish, and of course, the playful sea lions (one of which seemed to have a crush on Mike!!).
A word of caution while diving at the island; currents and conditions change rapidly, always be aware of your diving surroundings. Also, with these cool currents come the arrival of the infamous hammerheads....be sure to be on the lookout for these amazing creatures of the sea, and sign up with us if you are interested in participating in a hammerhead dive trip! If you are not already and Advanced Open Water diver, or a Deep Diver Specialist, we also are always offering those certifications. It is a pre-requisite to have one of these certifications in order to participate in hammerhead dives.
Sat., Sept. 1, 2007..........Search & Rescue Instructor Specialty
dive site..........................La Cascada, east side of San Pedro Nolasco
conditions.......................calm and clear
temp...............................88 at surface, 84 at depths
visibility...........................50 ft.
max depth.......................45 ft.
Fausto and Mike had a great time searching for our lost goldfish "Hider," as well as our "valuable" gold brick. They were successful at finding both, good job divers! Amidst all the excitement a sea turtle was spotted gliding through the clear waters, what a sight!
Be sure to check out our photos of these dives, as well as many other fun dives at Surface Time by joining our Ringo photo-sharing group!:
