My Grilfriend and i are planning to come to SC for the 2 last week of august to do some Scuba diving. We are in the process of getting our open water certifications. We came to SC about 1 month ago and loved it .We rented a boat to go Snorkling but the price was very high like $400 for 3 hours.if anyone can advise me where to rent a boat with or with out a captain for less then that and where to go to have a nice first scuba divin experiance in SC we are both student and live in NYC .Its a long way from SC therefore we would like to have a good time .
Thank for the advices

| check with surface time. They have private charters that are very reasonable. And it is a great trip, they have many suggestion as to where to go dive and are really up on the dive conditions on a daily basis. Dive Masters are awesome. They treat you real well.

We have several sail boats that we dive off of and also a power boat for diving. If you are new to the area we have just completed a dive guide to San Carlos with map. Sonoran Sport Center is located just past the first gas station as you come into town, look for our red kiteboarding flag.

I would definately recommend Surface Time. We use them regularly and find that they are very concerned about each individual's experience. I have used most of the dive shop in San Carlos. The one shop I will never use again is Gary's dive shop. They aren't at all concern with the diver's or snorkeller's needs rather they are only concerned about packing people on small boats and collecting money.

pardon my stupid request. i guess I was looking for input from Joe.
Not looking to put anyone on the spot at all. But....If a business is doling out bad service, and we are all being asked where's the best place to go, it's good to know.
I was in gary's in the middle of the week and the guy at the counter told some folks there weren't any Man-o-war around? i've been dodging them all week so that seemed pretty crummy.

Sorry But the message was adressed to me so in regard of Gary's i fell that i was way way way overcharged and i was my fault BC i didn't look anywhere else. That alwys sucks bc if i want to come back and now i will have in my mind that san carlos is way overprice .That is unfortunate bc it is one of my favorite place to come snorkling and diving and actualy the place i taught was the nices ppl was in la manga
I m no a hater but garys left me a sour taste in my mouth about SC

Sorry about the confusion. I do appreciate you're input. I've been diving in SC since about 1974. I think that is when Gary's got started or there abouts. Gary seems to be a pretty nice guy, but i think making a living in the diving business is pretty tough. Some times you forget who really pays the bills and quality falls off.
Past that, I've heard nothing but good about surface time. Competition is a good thing!
thanks and safe diving!

Tim,
I would recommend Punta San Antonio for snorkeling or diving. At most other spots, you don't really need a boat for snorkeling. I prefer to use a boat for all scuba diving.
Are you coming to SC as certified divers? There are numerous quality choices for certified divers that are inexspensive.

I went with gary´s , and wasn´t a pleasure just the enjoy the tacos discourse is a thing to remember.
2 pages of i will not make responsable to gary for nothing, even if the boat is too slow and will go to the bottom are the things that make me buy a raft and dive with an 73 years old italian who work on guaymas
