I'm curious about Alamos.  From what I read in guide books it sounds very interesting.  We are plannning on staying 13 nights in San Carlos, but now I'm wondering about spending a little less in S.C.  and traveling to Alamos.  Is there an RV park or some sort of camping there?  Is it worth seeing  as an overnighter?  I'm not sure if it would be feasible as a day trip out of San Carlos.  Any suggestions?

I stayed in Alamos last Jan. for a couple of days. well worth it. They have two RV parks, one on the right just befor town and one on the left just as you enter town. We stayed at the first one and people were very friendly. Nice town to stroll around in, great cemetary. enjoy. We will be in SC later this month and will take a trip to Alamos again. Watch the road leading in as it has lots of big pot holes, or at least it did last year, tough on our older MH. Wayneo

Here's a link for RV parks in Alamos:

Alamos is a pretty laid-back town. Fascinating colonial architecture, but not a lot to do. Some decent places to eat, if you know where to go. La Puerta Roja is outstanding and highly recommended.

On Saturday mornings at 10 a.m., there's a walking tour of restored colonial homes in the downtown area. Meet in front of the Museum on the main plaza. Cost = US$10; benefits a local educational scholarship charity.

Also, they have a local mailing list:

Check the archives to get a flavor of what's going on in the gringo community.

P.S. The road from Navojoa to Alamos is being widened and re-surfaced. Lots of construction machinery, and almost no shoulders for long stretches. Drive carefully, and don't drive it at night...

It's about 35 miles from Navojoa to downtown Alamos. Normally takes about 45 minutes to drive.

The first five miles and the last five miles are not under construction; just the middle section.

Allow at least three hours behind the wheel from San Carlos to Alamos.
