| HI We are considering a trip to San Carlos during the easter break. We have heard divingis very nice.. Our son who will be 12 and certified by then will be doing some of his first dives. We are avid Catalina CA divers so we are used to it being colder than the Carribbean, and Hawaii. How are the currents, and depths, and vis, for a newbie!! Hawaii has proved too expensive for a spring trip!

San Carlos offers a great setting for newly certified divers. The majority of the good diving in the area is shallow (40 feet or less) and fairly protected. The vis varies greatly during the spring, as the water will be starting to warm back up...but you can usually find at least 20 feet in locally and more like 50 feet at San Pedro island where the sea lion rookery is located. The sea lions are a blast and a must see. Generally speaking currents are usually pretty mild, but can kick up at San Pedro. Most all the local dive companies have experienced captains that can put you in the water in an easy spot for new divers.
Come enjoy!

Bear in mind that Easter is a busy time for San Carlos. You may want to make reservations in advance. The water will still be chilly, so bring a full length wetsuit.

| My daughter, who is 10, wasopen water certified in San Carlos in October of last year. I felt very comfortable diving with her there, not just because the instructor was present, but the water was beautiful, the fish were plentyful and the boat crews were awesome. He will have a great time and see a ton of fish!!
