Sorry to hear about your dinghy Vince. Have you alerted the sailing community on the radio nets? Hopefully they are alarmed about this. As you know this issue is near and dear to me also. I think something needs to be done about the theft issues in SC. The port captain and the police need to step up here and do patrols , etc. Maybe its time for the politicians in Guaymas/SC to here about this- they have something at stake here also. Something needs to be done to control this before word gets out about the easy targets in the bahia/marina. Per the discussion on this subject on the trailor sailor forum it was implied that people are sticking there head in the sand and denying/hoping this will go away by itself. I think it is also time for us sailors to start looking out for each other more, maybe start asking if anyone saw any suspicious activity on the radio as a normal check on the daily local radio net?? Good one for Flint?? Something to bring this subject to the forefront of peoples minds and keep it there. I fear that the days of leaving our boats/dinghys unlocked are slipping away from us quickly. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

| Hey Vince, When did this happen? I have been out working on my boat everyday. I always keep an eye out for the unusual. (bye the way... John, everything looks in order on your tri-hull)

It was the night of the 16th, I should of had it locked up, I am sure it was a local fisherman in a panga from the esterito fishing camp, he probably noticed the boat there in the morning when he left to fish. they leave at around 4 am in the morning from the esturay and get back in the afternoon. I spoke with one of the fisherman at tomate and he remembered it being there. I left it on the mooring ball two nights, one night too many, and that was my mistake. from here on in the next dingy will be locked up pretty tight no matter where it is. I actually had a lock for it but it didn't fit so I was going to get another one very soon. The reality is that if it is easy to take it is going to get taken so we have to lock everything up tight, the good old days are over here.
No body saw anything that I am aware of, there was a cruiser anchored very very close to the boat and he didn't notice a thing and he was on his boat when it was taken. I am going to do the rounds in Guaymas and see if it turns up. there is little doubt in my mind the boat is over there some where and I will be looking for it.
Bottom line is lock it up tight and make it hard to steal. I knew my dinghy was a target becuase it had a 25 horse power mariner on it. I wasn't even leaving it at the dinghy dock for fear it would be stolen, I was tying it off to Chantik on the end of I dock since that dock is gated and as we all know the dinghy dock is not.
You would think after all these years I would be a little smarter but we tend to forget what we have learned.
Cant wait for the next multihull regatta, I can finally keep up now.

Hi Vince
Please see my post on the general board on this subject if you have not already done so. It is in line with your suggestions plus a bit more.
Tony
PS. According to " the big book" the OED, the correct spelling is DINGHY. just teasing of course. Reminds me of that old saying" two nations divided by a common language." Hope you have some luck in recovering your loss.Last edited on Sun Mar 19th, 2006 05:38 pm by LimeyLInda

Vince - this is what I see in the Star - doesn't quite say 12 1/2 or Mariner, and there is a trailer.
12' ACHILLES HARD FLOOR, zodiac style inflatable, 25HP Mercury, with trailer $2000 OBO 578-0191
