Hi.
I am hoping to transport my 34' sloop on its trailer from Nogales to San Carlos in November. I hope to return north in March. I have never been to the Sea of Cortez before, and have very limited knowledge of what to expect. Will I need to have Mexican insurance on the boat while I am there? If so, what type of insurance is required (liability only?), and where do I get it? Recommendations?
Will an overwidth permit be required in Mexico (load width is 10')?
Any other current information or experiences on transporting boats from the border to San Carlos would be most appreciated. Thanks.

at 10 feet wide I suspect a permit would be needed, The marina San Carlos will require liability insurance if you are going to have a dock space. Liability insurance is easy to come by here in San Carlos. If you go to http://www.marinasancarlos.com and go to the dry storage link they should be able to better answer your question about permit for an over wide load. Remember that in many spots the road has no shoulder even though it is 4 lanes all the way. You will want to stay on the toll road, designated by the signs cuota, and make sure you have a good spare tire, perhaps two good spares.
