I am coming to San Carlos in March to take delivery of a boat. I am travelling from Europe and the most cost effective way is to fly in to Phoenix. I would like to hire a car in Phoenix and drive down to San Carlos. Couple of questions.

1. Can I hire a car then cross the border with it.

2. What about Mexican insurance.

3. Any idea of cost.

Or should I be looking at taking a bus and if so what are the schedules from Phoenix (I have looked at the bus company website but it does not seem to work very well and no bus times are available).

All help gratefully recieved.

Tony

Go to this link on my web site with info for how to get here from Phoenix, it is quite easy and there is no need to rent a car unless you really want to.

To answer your question, if you do decide to rent a car and drive, Enterprise rents cars to go to Mexico, with Mexican insurance included in the rental agreement. Bus will be much cheaper so decision is really based on how much local travel you plan on, the convenience of having a vehicle at your disposal and where you are staying.

If you come to SC on the bus you can rent cars here in Guaymas for local travel.

You could also fly from Phoenix to Guaymas. 8 hours drive vs. less than 2 hr flight.
