edit - I had originally posted this on the general forum, moved to sailing.
Hi All,
We are buying a sailboat in Mexico, will be living & sailing on it for 6 months. My question is this - is there any everyday items that we should bring with us? Or can we get pretty much everything we need in Mexico? Appreciate any advice.

I would insure you have essential engine spares-filters, belts, impeller, etc. Depending on the engine make and model these can be problematic in Mexico.

Yes. we will have all sailing related items, we are just wondering what, if any everyday items we should pack with us. NOT sailing related, just everyday life items.
Thanks

Mexico is pretty well stocked these days with various foods, medicines, etc. Fresh veges, fruits and meats can be better than in the US. Every large town (e.g., Guaymas, La Paz, Mazatlan) will have at least one big chain store like a Lays where you will think you are in the US. All towns will have smaller tiendas that typically still have a decent selection, though you may have to go to several stores to get all you need. If you need meds, you may have to see a doctor first for a prescription, but they will not charge too much ($25-40)--the drugs may be cheaper than in the US.
I am in the process of packing for a several week sailing trip. About the only non-sailing things we are bringing are: good cookies and crackers (Mex cookies are not our favorite) and cigars (they can be costly). In the end, there is a good variety of stuff availabe down there, and it is fun to be a little adventurous and enjoy the local stuff!

Noticed this is an old thread, but we are planning a return to Mexico this fall and will take sugar free sweet pickles, bourbon and a large supply of boric acid. We use the boric acid mixed with the small cans of condensed milk (until like playdoh) and leave in various spots in the bilge, and similar places. Never had a cockroach the whole time we were there, but the farmacias only sell it in tiny bags. Of course, we never brought cardboard aboard and always rinsed fruit & such before loading onto the boat. If you "serve" the boric acid mix on foil or any other container, it won't work. It has to just be plopped onto the area used.
If prices have gone down to reasonable for the pickles & bourbon, let me know
Thanks....
