Good call on the McGregor 26--they are junk.  Having sailed down there for over the past 11 years, I would get as heavy and large a boat as possible.  Shoal draft is also helpful.  It can get pretty cold and rough during a norther, which can occur once a week or so in the winter, and blow for 1-3 days.  Disel engines are great and avoid the gasoline hazard, but are hard to find on smaller boats.  Also, a propane stove is good because it can be hard to find good alcohol down there and many small boats have alcohol stoves.

Over the years, I had a Hunter 23 (wing keel) and Oday 27 (with small diesel engine) down there, but neither were really up for nasty, norther conditions, though the Oday sailed well.  Good luck with what is on the market.

thanks glitter. Kind of like the o,day myself. What about the 22 columbia. Older but heavy and trailerable. I spent alot of winters in Mex. mostly in SC. before it got so popular and remember the EL NORTE as I did a little wind surfing back then. Does anyone know John the wind surfer that lives I the fishing village??? Would love to get a hold of him. thanks   bob
