This will be our third trip to SC, this time we want to cross to the Baja side. The last trips down we did not have a boat capable of safely crossing the Sea of Cortez, this time we do. So I'm looking for advice on charts. Already have a few cruising guides but no actual charts.
And when we get there is anybody interested in helping raise a mast? My wife and I have done it ourselves but one more guy to steady things is helpful. We use an A-frame and the mainsheet 4:1 to raise the hinged mast.
The guys at the launch ramp will help you when you launch. If you have Cunningham's guide and a GPS you'll be fine. The important things are your motor and ground tackle. Both will get you out trouble. I would also recommend a radio that can receive the SSB nets for weather forecasts. This time of year it's really tricky dodging the northers, and we're getting some gale force southerlies this year too. We came back this week from Santa Rosalia on a 20 hour weather window. The anchorages will be difficult with the switching wind and wave patterns. Good luck and post your float plan here.
