I just bought a 46' Spindrift cutter rig. 46' LOA with a 12'10" beam and drafts 6 feet. Looking to bring her down and around the Baja from San Diego in April. Does anyone know long term availability and rates for a slip in either Marina San Carlos or Marina Real?
Thanks,
Steven

You will need to contact each marina directly and will depend on your arrival date and length of stay.

Steven...
Bart has given good advice about contacting each Marina directly... I would add: Do it immediately!
As a resident of S.C. for a number of years, I feel it's also important for you to know that although spaces are available now in both marinas... this will change soon... Beginning in April 'baja cruisers" will begin putting their boats up for the summer in both marinas... space in your range, which is limited to begin with, will become hard to find in May... and impossible to find in June. Last year -- for the first time in S.C. -- BOTH marinas were FULL... and I mean even a mooring buoy was impossible to find.
There are "security" differences between our two marinas (card locked ramps vs. open)... as well "electrolysis" differences (e.g. in SC Marina, the N side is “hotter” than the S)... if you're not familiar with S.C. you may want to post an inquiry -- and seek experiences and recommendations -- into both items.
Hope this helps...

Steve slip availability in the Marina San Carlos is pretty much first come first serve. I do not believe they will take a reservation.
good luck

I'm sure if you pay some of it they will. Security at Marina Real has been tightened up in the last year. I see a new level of security vigilance.

Marina San Carlos would not take a prepaid reservation from me. I was physically standing in their office with checkbook in hand. Their comment was "show up and we will see what is available." I said, "I don't want to come all the way up here if nothing is available." They said to call a couple of days in advance of my arrival. Not very helpful.
Marina space in the SOC is starting to become difficult to find. I know that the La Paz marinas are pretty much full with rates running around $12 per foot. Some of them will take prepaid reservations. There is a small discount with a one year lease. The new marina in San Jose del Cabo is not even open yet and I hear they have reservations for over half the slips (they are being very tight lipped about it) at $18 to $20 per foot. Forget about San Lucas. They have a waiting list with rates around $25 per foot.
They are starting to put in floating docks in San Felipe. I don't know what the rates are. I understand that you cannot get a permanent space. These are only short term transient docks.
Good Luck
