I MOVED THIS POST TO THE DIVING FORUM
HELLO ALL !
I'M JUST A NEWBIE WHO HAS BEEN LINGERING IN THE BACKGROUND, APPRECIATING ALL THE USEFULL INFO ON THIS FORUM.
I'M ALL SET WITH ALL THE INSURANCES, BOAT REGISTRATIONS, TOURIST CARDS, FISHING LICENSES, ECT, ECT BECAUSE OF THIS FORUM. MUCH THANKS
I'M COMING DOWN APRIL 11TH FOR A MONTH WITH MY 26' TRAILORSAILOR AND WILL SAIL ACROSS AND DOWN TO LAPAZ
ONE TOPIC I HAVEN'T HERD DISCUSSED IS SPEAR GUNS USED FOR FISHING. CAN YOU BRING THEM ACROSS THE BORDER ?? WOULD THEY BE USEFULL WHILE SNORKELING ?? ANY INFO IS APPRECIATED AND THANKS IN ADVANCE

Go to the diving forum on this bulletin board and post your question there. You are more likely to get a better and clearer answer.

If you don't get an answer there, post your question on the Baja Nomads board. I see people discussing spear fishing pretty often there. I don't think it would be considered a weapon, but I'm not an expert on the subject.

As far as I know they are not consisered firearms. However, you are not allowed to use ( and maybe bring across the border) anything that is not band or hand powered. No c02

This is probably of no use to you now, but to answer your question, there is no problem bringing spear guns into Mexico.
You just need a regular Mex fishing license to use them and they must be band powered, as mentioned in another reply.
There's some great diving and spearfishing on the way down to La Paz from SC, I've made the trip on occasion. Spearing must be done with out the aid of SCUBA or surface supplied ai, only free diving.
Hope you had a great trip, perhaps this info will help on future ones.
