There will be jellyfish so we suggest you wear a dive skin or very thin wet suit.  Will protect some from the jellyfish and also may save you a very bad sunburn, which can be almost as bad.  Look before you go in the water, whether from shore or a boat.

San Carlos is very safe if you use good judgement and practice the same personal security measures you would follow visiting any new city in the USA.  See our Travel Info page for some important Do's and Dont's.

Thanx
Bart

Most of the ones in SC are very small and you can see them pretty easily.

Divers Alert Network (DAN) has new recommendations for Jellyfish and other stings.  See the May/June issue of “alert diver”, “Stings Update, Conventional Treatments Get Revamped” article.  Most of the information that is in the May/June issue can be found at http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/faq/faq.asp?faqid=96 .  A must read for all SC divers.

The May/June article has a paragraph of interest that is not at the URL.
I’m quoting from the May/June article:
“A special note about the Portuguese man-o-war: Do not use vinegar for these stings, as it will cause the nematocytes to discharge.”

We just returned from a week in San Carlos....and the jellies (Agua Malla?) were pleanty!   I brought Jellyfish Protectant with me ( http://www.buysafesea.com/ ) and apparently it worked.  I have a few trailmarks that I discovered after we got home, but never felt being stung.

We also witnessed schools of the King Angelfish (purple and yellow) actually surfacing and eating the tentacles from the Jellies out at San Pedro.

Someone said they saw it somewhere, but couldnt remember where.  The dive shops would by my best guess to inquire.  :D

I bought a bottle of SafeSea from Surface Time about a year ago, but I don’t know if they still sell it.
