Hi Everyone,
I’ve been playing around with the free version of “Google Earth” which is really GREAT!! I thought I’d share some of my favorite SC dive sites where you can see the location on Google Earth. Do a copy/paste of the lat / lon into the upper left search box of Google Earth. It will take you right to the dive site. BTW, the lat / lon is where we usually park the boat during our dives.
FYI, Google Earth does not like the °,’, or “, so I just provided the lat / lon without the °,’, or “.
27 55 54 N 111 03 36 W Martini Cove Great dive location for your first dive of the week. Depth 10’ – 20’
27 52 34 N 110 57 08 W Las Gringas Great dive. Depth 20’ – 30’. We always find Octopus and trumpet fish.
27 56 10 N 111 03 03 W San Nicholas Great dive. Depth 20’ – 60’. If you take your boat further north, be extremely careful. There is a reef that is very close to the surface and in some places breaks the surface. In fact you can even see the reef in Google Earth.
27 55 51 N 111 03 47 W The Eagles Great dive; Numerous large boulders; Depth 20’ to 60’, We’ve dived up to 100m N and 100m S of the coordinate.
27 58 25 N 111 22 39 W San Pedro, Lighthouse Great dive; Usually numerous seals; Depth 20’ – 50’
28 02 32.76 N 111 13 45.6 W Ferry wreck Over the years the wreck has really been battered and beaten up. The dive is not as good as it was 8 years ago. Depth ~50’. Use your boat depth finder to locate the exact wreck location.
The above are the dive site names that we use, so if the dive location is know by another name, please let me know.
What are your favorite SC dive locations?

I have never dived the Sea Mount, but I’ve heard that it is a great dive. Up until this year, we have never had a GPS or depth finder. So we could never find the Sea Mount. However, it is not a problem now; We have both a GPS and depth finder.
I have two coordinates for the Sea Mount. Both point to the same location.
27 55 38.04 N 111 03 00.84 W Sea Mount (degrees, minutes, seconds) or
27 55.634 N 111 03.014 W Sea Mount (degrees, minutes)
Is this location correct?
I found a Dive Site map from Desert Divers. It has an excellent diagram of the Sea Mount.

Hi there!
I am confused! I have coordinates 28° 2.55' N, 111° 13.74' W that you posted as the location for the Albatun when the subject was "Tuna Boat Wreck" in April. This map shows the Albatun all the way around to the NW of Punta San Pedro, and the Ferry at this location. Which one is correct? I still haven't made it back from blue water in time to try to locate them, but with the pelagics leaving soon, I will probably begin looking for "new games to play".
Thanks!
Craig

Hi Craig,
I went back to some of the old posts, and I have to admit that on one post I was not too clear. In my post I just said “wreck”, when I was referring to the “Ferry Wreck”. I got the coordinate from a friend that has only dived the Ferry wreck. So, I’m quite certain the coordinate is for the Ferry Wreck. I’ll go back and correct my post.
The Ferry Wreck is located at (from Clay’s post):
28° 2.546' N, 111° 13.760' W (in deg, min.fraction of min) or
28° 02’ 32.76” N 111° 13’ 45.6” W (in deg, min, sec)
Sorry for any confusion on the above two coordinates. They are actually the same location, just different representations.
As far as I know, Clay was the last one to dive the Wreck and post a coordinate. Clay posted:
28° 2.546' N 111° 13.760' W which is about 123 ft from my original Ferry Wreck posting of
28° 02.55’ N 111° 13.74’ W
Since the two coordinates are only ~123’ apart, I’m assuming that Clay’s posting was referring to the Ferry Wreck (Clay only said wreck). I now use Clay’s coordinates for the Ferry Wreck. See http://sancarlosmx.mywowbb.com/view_topic.php?id=409&forum_id=3&highlight=ferry
FYI, 1’ (min) = 1852 m (exactly) or 6076.1 ft or 1 nm; 1” (sec) = about 101 ft.
Does anyone have the Tuna Boat wreck coordinates??
