Steve,

What about next week?  If all goes as planned I'll roll into town (no boat) Sunday or Monday the 16-17th bout noon.  What would be good action for the week?  SB two or three of us to fish the week out leaving Sat.  Any suggestions.  kjstm@aol.com

Ken- the weather and wind have taken a turn for the worst, I orginally thought we would be catching fish around the 20th, then the water shot up and I moved it up to the 8th, well I was dead wrong, at this point I'm thinking 2 more weeks, wish I had better news , maybe some good south winds will start soon

tight lines  Steve

NOAA has an excellent web page that has the water temperature of the area.   The web page is updated every 3 or 4 days.

http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/PSB/EPS/SST/data/gulfcalf.c.gif

I’ve been tracking water temperature around SC for several years and generally the water temperature does not reach 70° F (21.1 C) until the middle of April to the first week in May.

Being new to this, I’m not sure of the significance of the water temperature and fishing.  Could someone enlighten me?  Be kind. :)

Thanks

It has to do with the terperature preferences of pelagic fishes, and the fact that they will move to find those preferred teperatures. We are awaiting the arrival of the dorado (dolphinfish), marlin, and sailfish. OW, somebody REALLY smart tell me why the striped marlin aren't here according to this?

Saltwater Fish Temperature Preferences
            SALTWATER FISH TEMPERATURES PREFERENCES
Temperature preferences are only a rough guide, and Farhenheit at
that. But they will let you avoid areas where fish are most unlikely
to be found. Expect a variation a few degrees one way or the other.
On windy days, for example, oxygenated surface areas may attract
species to areas above their optimum. Such is also the case when
            baitfish are in warmer water.

Fisherking-The secret is leave at O-dark early, get into town before the madness gets too insane, get west of the Marina traffic circle and stay there!  Fortunately, both casa and marina are on the same end of town so we can get to and from the boat without too much problem.
For those who may be about to experience Semana Santa in SC for the very first time, you can probably move around without problems in the mornings, when all the little darlings are still sleeping off the night before.  But as the day wears on, and they begin to wake up and get thirsty again, traffic gets worse....and worse....and worse....and then....how do you say gridlock in Espanol?
We wish all a happy Easter (and IRS ;)) weekend.  Be safe out there.
Bart
