We would like to head to Tortuga for a day of fishing and come back in the evening. If we go it will be the first time, and would love to travel with atleast one more boat. If anyone is interested let me know. Unsure of dates just yet, but during summer we will be on the water atleast 2 weekends a month, so it's pretty open.

Hi,
I'm going down from 4/7-11. My plan was to find the 70+ degree water, that may take us to Tortuga. I'll know more later next week after reviewing the weather.
What kind of boat and power are you running? Have you done this before?
We're running a Hydra Sport 3300VX with a pair of 300 HPDI's. She's a 50 HPH boat that will cruise at 36-42 MPH @ 300+ mile range. I have GPS and sonar but no radar. Running at speed in the dark, even though it will be a full moon on the 13th might be out of the question.
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck, when we do get across it will be our first time to Tortuga. Our boat is a Skipjack 262 with a 350 Penta. Your boats got a helluvalot more speed than mine does lol... I'd be looking to cruise at 16-18 knots probably. With that said, as of now I probably won't be back in SC until late April.

Hi Chuck, I got the boat fixed up and running good now. I think I could take you! Put your pink slip on the line?? I'll even give you a head start from Marina San Carlos (I think that is a head start)...Ha ha... I guess it would kinda depend on the size of the chop as to who would have the advantage. Definetly not running at speed at night even with the radar though!

Hi Guys,
Thomas, I crossed last year for the first time with JZ. The Bay of Conception was worth the whole trip. We never really stuck together, it was just nice to have a comrad from SC in case there was a problem.
The Skipjack was my Father's favorite boat. I was on it many times and it always smeemed a capable piece of equipment. His was gas powered and did not have very good range. What kind of range do you have? Tortuga is 66 miles @ 240 one way. That's before we burn fuel to chance the YF. Santa Rosalia is another 26 miles. You can get fuel and gas there, the old fashion way, by truck and cart!
JZ got fuel there last year and had problems. Something to do with the RUST and solids in the fuel, clogging his filters. If you think you will need fuel, let's bring a Baja Filter.
I'll keep you posted if my schedule changes, which it always does (I have a girl friend and a JOB), right now it looks like I'll be there before Easter.
JZ, are you going to be at SC before Easter?

I've got a 1PM flight down tomorrow! Coming back Monday or Tuesday though.
I think my problem was the Octane level. I installed Racor fuel/water separators (and a new fuel pump), so I believe I'm good to go now.
