Downrigger Weights

I have had some custom downrigger weights made. I want to have them galvanized. Is there anyone in San Carlos or Guaymas who can do this? Do any of you know how well the paint-on "cold galvanize" works? Any other ideas on how to protect them from rust/corrosion?

WJC (El Gringo?),

I posted my suggestion on the Viva board, but I would try Rhino Lining them. I have it in my boat and it seems to be indestructible. It is even being used for hull coating now. I bet you could get it done cheap, while they were spraying another job. Might also keep'em from damaging other things if they "bounce off".

Good Idea! You can even get bedliner in a spray can now. I have used in on some other things and it is tough as nails! I just didn't think of putting it on those downrigger weights. Thanks for reminding me. I'm sure it will work.;)

WJC - Don y Elena are asking on Viva board where to get it. I saw it, but was it Home Depot, AuotZone, or??

I really don't know where to look for it in Mexico, but I know I can get it at a local hardware store here in Sandpoint, Idaho. I will be coming to San Carlos about November 25th, and will be glad to bring some with me for Don y Elena...I know that I will be bringing some for myself.  I'd be willing to bet it's available in Autozone.  Anyway, anybody who wants some should contact me before the 20th. :)

My new weights are 15-pounders, by the way, and I am trying the new braided downrigger line as opposed to the stainless cable...they say it has less drag and doesn't "sing". We'll see.
