|
not trying to start a argument or upset anyone, but i have used charters in san carlos many times and i called today to get prices on 2 guys fishing bottom and top and was quoted 550.00 a day. this i feel is to pricey and want to get some other ideas of charters. also i thought i read about someoone who would pay panga guys to take them out, any ideas for 2 guys fishing for two days.

I have never heard of the "panga guys" taking people out to fish, but that probably would be cheaper than chartering a sport fisher if you can find somebody to take you out. It seems like it would make for a long day,though (small boat, no head, minimal shade, etc.).
It has been my experience that all of the charter outfits in San Carlos charge between $70-$150 per hour depending on the size of the boat. We have fished with the Grajedas many times. As I recall, their price falls between those numbers.
Perhaps one of the charter companies could find a couple more anglers to share the charter with you, thus lowering the cost for you to fish.

Yea I to hate the idea of spending a full day out on the water in a small panga with a bunch of my friends fishing and diving. No head? Just ask the sea lions if you can use their bathroom . And as for the shade, man I just hate being out there hahahaha. Hope you find that panga man. If you can find a sundays news paper from Tucson, Jon Jen has had a add for 3 days of fishing for 500. You can find them on this forum. (not plugging someone biz just relaying info on newspaper). P.S. I think I sold my soul to be there in my little panga at least once a month.

I just prefer a bigger boat.
Fished a panga all day. Got a boat full of trigger fish. Had a blast.
Fished a sport fisher all day. Got marlin, sailfish, and dorado. Had a blast.
To each his own.

San Carlos has so much to offer.

I have arranged many trips for people on a budget to go out with Jose Luis Ramiez from La Manga. He charges around 2000 pesos for the whole day he has shade on his boat and it a great guy. He runs the resturant called La Mirador de La manga out at the fishing village of La Manga and if anyone would like to arrange a trip with him for fishing and diving call or email me. vradice@gmail.com
2000 pesos is around 160 dollars, and you get a cultural experience with Juan Jose who by the way was the guy who took me long line fishing for my documentary. He no longer fishes dorado with long lines and is completely switched over to tourism now.

ok so i went on the panga and heres my report..
we caught lots of fish, dorado, salmon, trigger, tuna, bass, snapper. we fished from la manga trolling to the island and then bottom fished. we started about 7.30 am on the water and got back around 3.30 pm. we had a blast and actually went for 2 days. the price was 2000.00 pesos and we gave jose a tip. the first day about 10.30 am jose fillet a salmon on the boat and we ate sushi, so good with saltwater lime and hot sauce// yummy. so the experience was great we asked lots of qustions about fishing snorkeling beaches etc and got lots of answers. jose speaks no english so spanish is a must.. a great guy very trditional and honest really enjoyed speaking to him. he has no gear hand lines only so make sure to bring your own. we lost a couple big fish and jose is sue he had a big fish on his hand line but couldnt get him up to the surface. the word for the day was tango tango
i have nothing but good to say about the trip both days but here are the cons for some people.
no gear, panga seats are hard on your butt after a day of fishing and trolling. no bathrooms we used a cup with a lid so women beware. panga fishing is different than the charter boats but very affordable..
i will definately use jose again he even is going to help me with my boat once i get down there gave me lots of advice etc..

| I may be wrong, but I think I have heard whitefish (blanco) called salmon in Mexico. Maybe it was another local fish, not whitefish.

Nightwing, you are correct. The Mexicans call it "salmon" but it is the whitefish. They have a small mouth and typically you need smaller hooks to catch them.

Okay,,, Ocean Whitefish ,,, Out of my fish book, Also called,,, Blanquillo, Average weight 6 lbs; largest on record 45 lbs; food value, good. Grayish-blue on top turning to pinkish at lateral line and silverish on belly. Has small mouth and thick lips. A tropical fish, liking warm water entirely and never found in northern waters. Usually around coast line with good supply of rock. Quite often caught at the ends of rock jetties.,,, Is found in all Mexican waters. ,,, Mex Fish has a longer description along with pics.,,, So the name Salmon is a name that the locals gave it ,,, just like Cochito for Trigger,,, In Penasco where I do most of my fishing I've never heard it called a Salmon ,,, ~~~
