Just wondering what the night fishing is like? What do you guys fish for? What's the technique? After trolling all day, I'm still ready to fish after the sun goes down, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

most of the night anglers troll for ladyfish at Tequila's....techniques vary.
(sorry, just couldn't resist ...no one that I know of fishes at night other than the local pangeros for squid or bait)

i've tried night trolling several times with zero success in open water no matter what i'm dragging. you might do better trolling or casting small stuff in close over reefs n rocks to see if you can pick up any of the usual bottom suspects. remember that most of the bottom fish are active at night (and i'm told that triggers wedge themselves in rocks and "sleep", so you can actually fish plastic without getting it chewed to shreds). i usually just anchor or drift and fish with bait over any of the usual bottom fishing locations.
it's well worth going out at night even if you catch nothing.....beautiful and peaceful, and easy to navigate home. altho you might miss out on that ladyfish bite....

I picked up a nice barred pargo one night fishing off the concrete platform in back of the old Governor's house that overlooks La Posada Bay. I was fishing a huge east coast style surf rod and tossing pieces of squid way out over the reefs.
I did an all nighter at the 51 in Penasco. I figured the reef would be active at night. Nada-nada. Last bite came about sunset and didn't get a bump all night long until sunrise.
Save yourself the trouble and chase the ladyfish, or get a good night's sleep!

You guys are killing me!! Ladyfish!? Really?? I always figured most of them would be down there with their boyfriend/husbands? You're going to get me into trouble. So where do you guys find these ladyfish? Your not just getting hammered at the bar and hitting on the waitress, are you?? Tell the truth!!!
Still looking for night fishing advice, and now Ladyfish comments.

| A guy caught and lost a swordfish off the Cape according to Mexfish.com. Still a thousand times better chance than catching swine flu.
