There is a "road" that follows the coast north of La Manga for a few miles.  Hard to give you directions but you should look at Google Earth to see the coves.  The road is rough at times but any vehicle with a little ground clearance can make it.

It is hot and humid -- try checking historical data on Weather Underground.  Jelly fish come and go -- hard to say.  The common one's here are the Pacific Man-O-War not technically a jellyfish --  They are small and are always on or near the surface.  A lycra skin is usually enough to prevent the stings which are not life threatening but hurt like a bee sting.  Physalia physalis.  The floating part is usually about the size of a quarter and the dark blue tentacles 6-10 inches.

Tim--

i camp in this area a fair amount.  if you follow the roads north as far as you can without going onto private land (you will cross one cattle guard but there's no gate or sign), you'll eventually come to an area with small island (more of a peninsula at low tide)  off point.  it's visible on Google Earth.  i believe some charts list area as Chollado.  decent snorkeling here and north from here.  the trick is to keep bearing away from sea whenever you come to a fork until you get through the cattle guard, then head toward water on next few roads.

there's nothing out there that will give a small SUV, even a 2WD one, even slight pause, but you WILL end up with some new pinstripes from the vegetation and coming up out of the one big arroyo is easier in 4WD and if you take the left fork.

be careful walking out to water from beach as the rocks in this area are slick as hell with algae and tend to be round and hard to walk on.

The kids in la manga love tennis balls, it is amazing what Phinney does down there. I just left and saw no jellys and I did do 2 days of snorkeling. 89 degree water Hot.

Tim--

quiet would be an understatement out there.  it's so far from touristy i can't begin to tell you.  more in the realm of solo beach camping; you'll hardly see anyone out there on weekdays.  driving past the trash dumps out behind La Manga on the way out to this area seems to put off most of the folks seeking touristy......

the other side of this is that since there are no supplies out there, you need to plan for this and take whatever you'll need.  it's only 15-20 min back to town but......that adds up.

i'd second the idea of taking some small gifts for the kids at La M.  the people there are long on heart and short on material goods and the kids don't get too many "goodies".   fruit, especially stuff they can't get there like strawberries, seems to go over well too.

soccer balls would be source of much joy as 1 soccer ball = fun for a whole bunch of kids.  not sure about OTC meds.
