If you got your own boat;
I always suggest hiring one of the local boys to captain you for a day or two-or more. It is not that expensive to have them for a guide. One of them might be my extended family and that would help me out too.
The local Boys are the most familiar with the area. You will learn some places to fish and help out the locals. They will captain the boat, serve you drinks and prepare food, bait your line and desulta the fish, clean the fish, and haul the anchor. You all set back like royalty and enjoy.
Ask at the ramp or, ask Pedro, or anyone who is working the fuel dock. Actually, its best to ask at the fuel dock because they know the good guys from the bad guys.
It IS your investment for future fishing pleasure!
PLEASE, use local workers. They depend on you to support their Families!!!

A reasonable rate is $5/hr, $25 minimum, depending on your success and the experience you have. Don't forget that if they work only 1/2 day for you, they may have missed a chance to get a full day trip. I usually pay about $50 for a full day and the guys I have hired are always happy to work with me. That includes washing the boat when you are done, but I may add a little more if they get someone to help if there are lots of fish to clean.
Joel, Chuy, Roberto, and others are usually around the H, I, & J docks in the morning.

Try to get as close to $50.00, for the day, as you can.
Remember, you are paying for their knowledge. For the rest of your life in SC you will be able to use that knowledge.

| good advice. did good by myself during the winter, but summer can be a different animal. i used to run boats for a living and did charter boats on the side for beer money. knowing where the holes are means everything. 50 bucks a day would be worth it.
