I haven't been to San Carlos in over a year. We want to come down, towing my 24' Boston Whaler with a new Escalade. With all the bad news coming out of other parts along the Mexican border, am wondering if there's anything to worry about now. I've traveled extensively in Mexico, owned two boats in San Carlos and speak the language pretty well. I have never been apprehensive until now with all the crap that's going on. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks.

| We've been going down the last two year with no problems. We've launched and rented slips at both San Carlos marina and at Marina Real and everyone has been great. We left the boat at marina Seca in dry storage for a couple months. Get your TIP permit online atleast 10 days before your trip. Fishing this summer has been hot and cold with more cold lately.

| I must be losing it, but what is a TIP permit? Isn't the Sonora Free Zone still in effect? Thanks.

| I thought the Mexican government had lifted the requirement for a boat permit and that all you need now is a Mexican fishing license. Am I wrong?

They lifted the requirement for the old boat fishing permit that was similarly shaped as the fishing license (although light blue) but the Temporary Importation Permit still exists at 50.00 for 10 years, I believe.

| OK, correct me if I'm wrong, but the TIP is not required to tow your boat down and back, it is only required if you intend to leave Mexico and leave the boat behind, right?

When we pulled my boat down earlier in the month, they asked for the TIP at KM21. The Marina also asked for it to launch/slip. Ended up storing it in SC, but I think you need it regardless.

| The TIP is overnighted to you and it only takes a couple of days from the time you order it online until you get it. Traveling to SC from Phoenix is very safe. Just make sure your trailer tires and bearings are in good shape. The only problem with the trip is the construction on the roads. Typically no problem but since you are towing, there will be some areas where traffic is diverted on one lane roads and with all the commercial trucks and buses along with no shoulders and a 6' drop off on the sides, it can make for a few white knuckled moments.

It must be hit and miss on the TIP. The wife and I pulled down our boat last month and had it in Marina Real for a week. Aside from the extra Toll amounts, it might as well not even been behind me (both to and from). Additionally, all the the Harbor master wanted was proof of ownership and proof of Mexican insurance and of course a reasonable slip rental fee .
........and the 1 lane each way construction transition areas are white knuckle!!!

| Hi Folks, if I understand correctly, TIP is not required for a truck and fifthwheel as long as you are west of Highway 15 and no further south than Guaymas. Is this correct?
