Capitan Fernando took us on Catch 22 Rubina to the fertile fishing grounds at 8 miles 205 (WHO's Idea WAS THAT!) and we saw over 100 SAILFISH today - released two, hooked two more, and got bit so much my rods are looking old..........bonus day on the Sea of Cortez, and pictures and video to follow..
We were next to Catch 22 Pez Vela while they hooked a QUADRUPLE!!!!!!
I guess the rest of the boats went too far , but oh huela..

| Are you f ing. Kidding me! Adam and I decided against a short run today to get home. We spoke to the Oracle who said quote. I would not go out today unless they were 10 miles and jumping in the boat. J

| That's about where we pulled them in after eighty miles. Quoting my friend, "Let's pull them in because I know there aren't fish up ahead."

We actually had a jumper coming RIGHT AT THE BOAT while we were fighting the second fish. It made the last jump less than 50 feet from us.....I thought it might jump in.

As Craig says, it was a great day, I had never seen so many sails...they were jumping all over the place, yu could see their dorsal fins crashing the surface...
Here are pictures of Gerardo on Catch 22 Pez Vela, we were cose to them when they got hooked up, they released a double out of a cuadruple strike,

One sailfish at the boat and the 2nd one still fisghting

release:

the joy of the release:

And now our own 2 sails....

good luck to all this week...
Fernando

Adam...it's a shame you guys decided not to do at least the half day of fishing, the drive up north would have been much more fun talking about all the sailfish behind your boat.
cheers,
Fernando

To add to the story and give credit where due, the 4 fisherman on Pez Vela were sponsored guests on a trip we put up last fall as a charity auction fund raiser for the Sierra Vista Open Golf tournament. The trip was co-sponsored by Jon-Jen Charters, Catch 22 Sport Fishing, the Marina Cantina and First Choice Property Management in addition to http://www.sancarlosmexico.com.
Besides the quad sail hookup, the guys also boated an estimated 40# dorado!
Thanx to Steve and Gerardo from Catch 22, Jon and Able from Jon-Jen, Rick and the staff at Marina Cantina and Tom & Diane from First Choice Property for their support in making this a trip these four guys will be talking about years.
And thank you Fernando for the great pictures!

Great pics. Wish we had experienced SC at it best (our first time there) rather than its worst (Fri and Sat). Hope the shoulder (and the Rubina) is well when we come down next.

Azguy45- I agree with you Friday was the the slowest day ever, Between some friends, The Jon -Jen fleet, and The Catch-22 fleet we had 7 boats on the water for a Grand total of 1 Sailfish...Then 2 days Later The Sailfish and Marlin bite goes wide open...Yesterday The boat a "Little Loose" did 3 Sails, 1 Blue Marlin and 1 Big bull Dorado...Go Figure ??? I have tracked moon Phases, Tide schedules, Water temps Etc..Etc and still have no clue why our fish Turn on and Off ??.
Two weeks ago we were in an Area were there were billfish Jumping Every were , we saw 75-100 Jumpers in 2 hours , Then just like some one turned a Switch they Stopped, nothing we did not see a single Jumper the rest of the day ?? not sure I will ever figure it out..Please don't give up on San Carlos Yet..It's way better than Our Friday experience

Steve:
Over the years, I've had more bad fishing days than I care to remember, but fishing is still my biggest passion. Heck, if it was always great fishing, I probably wouldn't want to do it anymore. Even though the fishing was off, we made some new friends and had some great meals and relaxation.
One of my buddies had a worse day at golf that we had at fishing. He lost a backpack that had his passport and $250 cash in it (among other things).
We're already looking forward to our next fishing trip to SC...

Barato..thx for the comments on the pictures....I'm a photography entusiast now, just picked up the camera a few onths ago and I'm liking it a lot.
We were lucky to be close to "Pez Vela" when they were fighting that double, I wanted to get closer to take better pictures, but I was affraid to go over their lines, they had one sail close to the boat and the oher one was way out. It sure was fun.
cheers,
Fernando

"Little Loose" won't work in the BILLFISH blowout! Tease em' like you did in Guatemala, Steve. Littlle tap, pull, tip up, surface, BAM! I'm pulling for Catch 22 team. I say 18 billfish will win, process all cameras, despite your sincere trust for all fisherman, the camera is part of the game.
