With the high prices of oil in the US was curious if it was cheaper to buy 2-stroke outboard oil in Mexico. I can buy a quart of Valvoline for $2.65 per quart here. Can anyone advise? Gracias!

Good question. I am paying $18.00 a gal. at West Marine and $21.00 gal at Cabelas.
Hope one of the local Chandlers can respond

| Is there any real difference between oil from Penzoil or valvoline and Mercury? My thought is that Mercury is recommended because they make more from it, but I would sure like to hear from anyone with any experience. Thanks, Dan.

Ok. I do consider myself somewhat of an expert on this subject as I researched it a lot. Also, I have advice from my Factory trained Mercury race mechanic who has contracts for maintenance of all AZ Game and fish boats. Any oil that is marked TC-W3 is OK. EXCEPT FOR A MERCURY OPTIMAX. The Optimax is a DFI engine ( oil is injected into cylinders, not mixed with fuel in the pump system. ) The viscosity of the DFI oil is different as it has to run down the cylider walls to lubricate. You can use TC-W3 oil but it will likely shorten your engine life. DFI oil is about 50% more expensive. The brand of oil is irrelevant.

Wal Mart has the best deal on 2 stroke oil that I have found. They have their own "house brand" Super Tech that is TC-W3 rated or Pennzoil Regular/Semi/100% Synthetic.
I don't know what the current price is. Since the kids wrecked the jet ski I haven't had to buy any.

| I use Super Tech all the time, works fine. As of 2 weeks ago it was still about $10 a gal. Last edited on Sat Jun 14th, 2008 03:06 am by daveMac

I just bought SuperTech at Walmart in Taos for a bit under $9/gal USD. If gas keeps going up, I'll be able to run my bass boat on oil and save money.

| Well with no responses on local oil price I decided to buy at Wallyworld based on the input on the Super Tech. I paid $8.69/gallon. Now it's just a few more days till I get to burn some of it in the Sea of Cortez. See you all next week!!

Do yourself a favor buy the good stuff. The cheap stuff burns way too quick and it will cost you more in the long term

Do not understand the above. If an oil ijected engine is regulatd by the throttlesetting or built incomputer, how can the " quality of oil"effect burn off. Sorry load of crap. I , however do agree that better quality oil will prolong your engine life. Can someone tell me how to to tell the difference between low quality and ood quality oil.

I am sorry I did not read your above post, I did not know you are a "self proclaimed expert".
Anyone buying oil from Cabalas or West Marine is paying to much in any country Mr. Expert.
And what are you an expert at exactly?
Ask your expert advisors if some oils burn quicker than others than send me an apology ______________.

At SMc in san carlos the quicksilver tc-w3 is 4.15 the quart, but if you get a case its a lot more cheaper, they also have a mallory brand that is .39 the quart
the optimax gallon is about 46 dlls.
i dont recomenc semi or synthetic on two stroke oil, i believe it makes no diference while beeing mixed with gas, on my dirtbike i do use 100% synt.
