Applied for permit on internet 5/13/08 and received it 05/15/09 (in casper wyo) via fedex. The way i understand the instruction sheet i have to turn haligraph in at the border when we go home.  We only stay a couple of weeks at a time and trailer our boat back and forth.  Does that mean we need a new PERMIT EVERY TRIP AT 54.00 A POP?

I also just received our TIP.
Our turn around time was also very fast.
I'm glad you posted this question! It never crossed my mind. If there's no reply to it maybe the Marina will know?

The TIP is good for ten years; you do not need to turn it in every time you leave Mexico.  You do need to turn the permit in if you leave with the boat and don’t plan on returning it to Mexico. Like if you plan on selling it back in the states and you want to bring in a different boat. If you did not turn in the permit for the old boat they will not issue you a permit for the new boat.

Say if you decide to take it home and plan on coming back with it and don't turn in the TIP. Then you decide to sell it back home....How do you return the TIP? Certainly you don;t have to take the boat back to the border?

Can anyone tell me where to turn in my TIP, so that I can get a new one for my current boat?

Thanks

Couple questions, as we're going to take our first trip to SC...currently keep the boat in Puerto Pensasco and don't have a TIP.

1.)  What is the web site address that I can order the TIP from?

2.)  If I order this online, do we need to stop anywhere or do anything additional prior to picking up the boat in Puerto Pensasco and trailering to SC?

Thanks in advance!

You can get a "TIP" at KM21. Here's the web page

That's the issue, do I have to go to KM21?  The boat is in Puerto Penasco and we were planning to (after crossing the border in Sonoyta) go through Caborca then down to SC, so obviously KM21 would be out of the way.

If you do it online, you do not need to go to 21KM.  Good for 10 years, but must be turned in before you PERMANENTLY remove the boat from Mexico.

I am going through the online process myself. One problem you may encounter is that it wants you to input the serial number of your motor.  I just have to go up the road to my boat  for mine since that is a number one tends not to keep at home. I am not sure if this number is actually verified by anyone in MX so someone maybe able to comment on if this number needs to be accurate or not.

They did not check any of the numbers when I brought my boat into Mexico in April. They will probably be checking the numbers when you remove the boat PERMANENTLY and turn in the TIP.

Bart,

So if you do the permit online they do not have to see the boat or stamp the permit or anything??? I ask this because my boat is already stored in Kino..

I just bought my permit online last month and I just entered VIN info and VIN on trailer and they sent me the permit and the holigram sticker to put on my boat.
We are coming down next Saturday so I will post any information I get at the border.

You can get it stamped at the boarder or you can mail the accompanying letter in with copies of the docs. and then no need to do anything at the border. All the info is on the web site but this info. is at the end of the application. Did mine this am.

I would like to bring my boat to SC from Arizona and leave it there. Do I need to buy mexican insurance for it or can I use what I have? Is there anything else that I need?

Use the search feature on this site . All the info is there. Check with your insurance company. Also, you need a TIP.

You need Mexican watercraft liability insurance at a minimum and can order it online on our insurance page on the main web site.  You will also need a TIP and the link to order that online appears earlier in this thread.
