The yellow tail fishing derby that ran from January through March has ended and I was wondering if anyone knows what the results were?  Biggest fish, etc.

Regards,
Mike

I think I tied with another person at 24.6#. The turnout was maybe a half dozen at best. Maybe next year. I thought it was a good idea.

Only one Tail at the island today in the soup. Caught some good marlin sized mackerel in 300+' on jigs!

They were close to 2# 14-16" fish. Some were barred (the Greens), but others had all black backs with bigger eyes. They would make some sweet live bait for grouper.

Are those mackeral there during the summer? I have never figured out why the live bait drop back thing is not popular in SC.? At Cabo we always stop and jig up some live bait before actually starting fishing. Does anyone do that in SC?

Figures. The one event that we didn't enter and we caught several yellows over 30#and one aver #35. If we had entered the event, we probably would have caught nothing. Go figure.

We fish live bait in summer mostly live sardines. Reason most don't is availability. I have always thought someone with a panga could make some good money (on weekends) and be done before 9 am.

Steve,

Do you know who was in charge of this derby?  I thought the idea was a good one, and I'd like to find out how many fish were entered and how many people participated.

Mike
