What ever happened to common courtesy on the water? On last weeks trip to S/C, it was like fishing on the weekend in SoCal. We were at the island just after light. We fished the north end of the island and came up empty. We cruised down toward the south end where several cruisers and a couple of pangas had gathered. About 200 yards from the nearest boat, we pulled the power back and surveyed the sityation. Just then, some "breezers" hit the surface and we cast out a couple of live baits and we were instantly hit. As we drifted towards the crowd, we cast out a couple more baits and were hit again. By now, several of the other boats saw us and moved on in. I'm talking within 50'! We powered up and moved 100 yards or so away and two boats followed us. The hot sticks that we started with had cooled down and our followers finally drifted away. As we motored to a new spot, some yellow hit the surface and we moved toward them. I watched one boat almost in the middle of the group, give it full gas to get over to where we were.
Later on, one of the pangas was repositioning and he saw some breezers and headed towards them. not 10 seconds later, these guys in a cruiser cut them off, missing the panga by less than 20'. I don't think he ever saw the panga. fortunately the panga driver was paying attention and avoided a mishap.
We were fly lining live baits and on several occasions, we had to reel them in because someone was driving right past and didn't bother to see what other people are doing.
Come on guys, there is plenty of ocean out there. I'm sure most of us come to S/C for the great fishing and the relaxation. Let's not turn this place into San Diego.
