New to the sight. I like it!
My parents are in the process of purchasing a place in beautiful San Carlos. I'm a fly fisherman and am wodering if there are any outfits down there that cater specifically to fly tossers. Even a day on a panga with someone who's knowlegeable about where to find dorado, sails etc. would be great.
I've fished for these species in baja before but never this far north.
Thanks,
BFR

There are lots of guys around San Carlos that are familiar enough with fly fishing including the guys AcuDoc mentioned Except for a short time in the summer, you'll probably have to go farther out than a lot of people like to go in a kayak for dorado and billfish. I have caught dorado within 3 mi. of port though. If you're there for a while, ask around for someone who caters to the kind of fishing you want to do. Whether I have my own boat or not, I always hire a guide on a first trip to any new area.
There's lots of other stuff that's fun to catch on a fly rod besides billfish and dorado in closer though. I never fished out of a kayak, but I have walked the beaches of San Carlos at daylight with fly rod in hand. Whenever I'd see a bait boil, I'd wade out into the surf if I had to, and start pitching a streamer into it. You never know what you're going to catch, but if there's a bait boil, something is probably feeding on it. Best of luck, and have fun.

a buddy of mine once caught a dorado between honeymoon island and the beach! We were returning after snorkleing of the shallow side of the island and decided to slingshot around the island trolling a rapala in hopes of picking up a little mackrel and low and behold, he hooked a dorado on our way back.
I was amazed. not likely, but does happen.

| I landed two tuna not too far from aquarium cove once also. You're right. It doesn't happen very often, but you never know what you're going to tie into. That's part of the fun of fishing the ocean.
