OK, when I start noticing that the strap hinges on my nightstand are shaped like billfish tails, and I gravitate towards one particular brand of cheap aussie wine cuz of the name "Yellowtail"....

It’s time for either a 12 step program or a trip south! :shock::D:P:cool:

There is no cure.  I know.  I have been one for 60 years.  There is relief but alas now the distance is too far.  It is not any fishing that will do it must have salt water involved in the equation.  Tequila and limejuice are also required for full relief.  It is watching the other boats come in with their catch.  It is the bragging on the dock.  It is eating fish for dinner freshly caught and cooked to perfection.

As I sit here in the rest home wondering when I will have enough rest and be able to come again.  Not, I guess, in this life but the next.  Maybe merciful god will send me to the Sea of Cortez as a poor Mexican beach dweller.  I wasted so much of this life working and acquiring the things that others set as standards.  I will do better if there is a second opportunity.

I wish you tight lines and safety in all things.  Remember that fishing is much more important than a green lawn, the respect of co-workers, the large house and other trivialities.  In the final look, back you will remember the fishing the most.

Wow , I'm moved.

I think I'll take my son and toss a line off the rocks today. Thanks for that message, Dave, and for making me realize that I need to wet my lines more often.

Yours,

Damon

I too am a fishaholic. I have had the disease for some time now. Dave, I'm glad to know it will never be cured.

I took my 2 year old son fishing for the first time last weekend. We were trying to catch goldfish and koi in our pond. The dang things are really smart and couldn't get them to eat the fly hook baited with their color enhancing koi food. He's already learning the lesson that it's called Fishing and not Catching.

It was a blast and looking forward to teaching both of my son's all I know about what lives in the sea.

Happy Fishing,  Matt

Beware.........that’s how it started for me, with my aunt hooking the fish and shoving rod into my 4 year old mitts....!!! I think I got hooked far more thoroughly than the fish.........

Seriously, just as nature abhors a vacuum, the psyche abhors a vacuum of passion. often the more unsavory elements of the psyche, or life, supply a "passion", all too often a pernicious one, if there isn’t already one there. Moral of story: one of the single best things you can do for your kids and grandkids is to try to infuse them early on with some healthy passions like fishing and loving the seacoast and its life. Any water’s edge has always been magical to me, and I’m a lot richer for having seen mantas and tarpon jumping 100 yards off the beach, in ways I can’t measure and no creditor can take away.

Dave, you're a wise man.  i too could be happy fishing with a handline.  hope to meet you down there, in this life or the next.  Matt, loved the pic and the story!

I am happy to hear the stories of despair lifting some of you from the clutches of the evil slime. I wish someone had helped me sooner, but I did not hit bottom until I had traded my son to an "Asian Gentlemen" for a Shimano Stella 8000. Remember what can happen when you next reach out in the early morning darkness for that evil staff. Ignore the Siren Song of that screaming drag and the temptaion of Reef Madness!!!!!

Ah yes, the love of fishing.....not all share it but those that do are in a league of their own...no matter how they got there.  We all appreciate the endeavor, from an early rise in anticipation of a days bounty, to the magnificient sunrise reserved for those you awake, the smells and sounds, the mystifying fog that we can function within all with almost flawless perfection.  The first bait in the water with hopes that anything will take it and run and awaken the senses.  Hours of vacant study that require in depth analysis from everything present to the distant past.  The tight line connects you with a world that you are somehow vastly acquainted to.  A world that you can't live in but that you think you know intimately.  The fish that has taken your offering is a god send, big or small, and you appreciate it.  You may send it off to swim again or take it for a meal to nourish the soul.

I hunted and fished with my dad for 39 years and it was not enough.  He's been gone for 6 years now and the only time we fish is in my dreams.  We fished months in the Sea of Cortez and I believe they were some of the best days in his life.....definitely some of mine.  I've been away starting my family but I plan to be back sharing with my kids just as my dad did with me.....fishing in the blue wonder seeking a partner in this much needed relationship.

Remember.....everyday fished is another day added to your life!
