I would not fudge the year-if there is ever a problem or an issue they could confiscate the boat.  In this case, seems your options are to get the TIP at 21km or get it in SC with a side trip to Guaymas.  Sorry...

Hi, I am new to this forum and this TIP subject hit home.  I would like to throw out a couple of questions and see if I can get any answers form members or possibly Heidi.  I pulled my boat to bring home for the summer and didn't turn in my TIP because of course I was coming back down.  In the mean time I bought another boat.  Am I going to have to pull my boat all the way back from CO. just to turn in the permit or is there any other way to take care of problem?

The boat I bought has an existing TIP which was also not turned in.  Is this going to be a problem when I apply for my new TIP on my new boat?

Any feed back would be great and may help someone else in the boat. (just a little play on words)  Thanks,

Bill

I had a similar experience a few years ago.  I brought my boat home with the TIP intending to bring it back.  I bought another boat.  When I was at Aduana getting a TIP for the other boat, they ask me about the first boat, as it came up on their computer.  They told me I had to either produce the boat, or present proof that I had sold it in the  US.   I told them I could produce a bill of sale, and they just ask me to bring it the next time I came down, which I did.  They didn't offer to put me in jail, or anything.  If it were me, I'd just stop at Aduana on the way down, and give them all the paperwork you have, even if you have to sell the boat to your dog.  Maybe someone who understands Mexican law can give you better advice, but that's just my personal experience.  Don't send a hatchet-man looking for me if they put you in jail.

(I would call that a disclaimer.)

Now there's some great words of encouragement!!  By the way did you take care of this at K 21 with no further problems with the bill of sale?

I wanted to share my experience with getting a TIP ---
We are coming down to SC the second week of June so I figured I had enough time to go online and get our permit.
I went online on April 23rd and filled out the information and charged the $52 on my cc and on April 25th I received the permit Fed Ex from Mexico City!
We are in New Mexico.... ; - D !!!
I was amazed at how fast it went, this hasn't always been our experience dealing with the border paperwork.

I sure appreciate all of the information on this site!
Hopefully this time around we'll be able to leave our boat in SC!

Every time I try to fill out form online, it asks to choose a country and state you're going to, but won't let you....just says select but won't give me a selection!?
