Here are some FAQ’s about the Yellowtail Tournament.
Q. Can we fish with hand lines?
A. No. IGFA Rules require that you use a rod and a hand cranked reel(no electrics).
Q. Can I fish by myself?
A. At least 2 anglers per boat are required. The Mexican Fishing Laws say a limit of five (5) Yellowtail per angler, therefore in order to have ten fish to weigh per boat, you must have two anglers. There are also safety issues.
Q. Can I use wire line?
A. Yes. We are taking exception to the IGFA rule on wire line for this tournament.
Q. When do all lines have to be in?
A. . You can fish as long as you want to, the Weigh Station will Close at 5pm both days, and if you aren’t there before then, you fish will not be included in the tournament.
Q. Is it a requirement that I have a “Captain”?
A. No, but we encourage the use of a local Mexican “Captain” to enhance your chances of success, and there will be a captains award to the team with a captain that finishes highest in each pool..
Q. Is there a prize for the biggest fish?
A. Yes. San Carlos Yachts has generously donated a beautiful trophy for the biggest fish.
Q. How do you win a jackpot?
A. Each boat is allowed to weigh up to 10 fish on Saturday and 10 fish on Sunday. First, second, and third in each jackpot will be based on the total weight of the fish weighed on Saturday and Sunday added together.
Q. What are the fees and the pots?
A. There is a $50 USD entry fee per angler. The Jackpots are $100, $250, and $500. Your boat may enter any one or two or all three Jackpots. If you have two anglers and you enter the $500 jackpot, your total cost would be $600. All entry money must be paid in Cash, US Dollars or the Pesos equivalent.
Q. Do I need a fishing License
A. Mexican Law requires valid permits for your boat, and a fishing license for each angler’

According to what I understand, you can go out at 5 am...but it doesn't mean that you have to!

| We put the 5:00AM start time in case anyone would want to go out early and catch live bait. You can go out anytime after 5:00 if you so desire.
