I was just curious if this year is slower than usual or whats the deal. I havent heard about alot of people cathing any. Has the best time of year come and gone? I ask because I want to plan another fishing trip and havent been very good at planning my last couple trips. Is spring better than winter? Any info would be sweet!! Starting to jones for the ocean!! | It's just been so windy this year. Maybe the water has been too cold at times. Some good reports are out there and there are some large fish coming in. San Antonio hasn't gone off like last year, which is probably more typical for the area. I often think that spring has better fishing and bigger fish. Only time and wet lines will tell.

We run a annual free diving spearfishing event for Yellowtail each year, first couple of years it was late Jan, early Feb.
Due to weather and water condition etc, we had very few fish the first years, then changed it to mid-March and it has been a lot more successful for the tourney and me personally, that time of year.
However, although it's the same fish in the same area, what works for spearfishing may have no bearing on the rod & reel success.
Good luck!

| That's the one thing I left out. I too believe that they come back up to the surface more in the spring. I think that the green macks make more of a run then too. I always thought that the bigger southern fish showed up later in the season, though there have been some sizeable fish already this year.

Sounds like late March might be the time to go. I hope to get down there some time around then. Thanks, Mike
