The 225 lb'er (from what I read) was Capt. Jesse! Ouch!
And oh, by the way, not that I'm a stickler for political correctness, but they are officially no longer called "jewfish." They are now called "Goliath Grouper."
Don't shoot the messenger...

| Went out today, Tuesday, to the island. Lot's of wind and waves, but no yellows. One panga captain was on the spot catching at least 3 yellows. There is always tomorrow.

i've now read of/seen pix of 3 primates being caught on this site alone. i 've always told friends that one joy of fishing salt water is that you don't know what sort of ugly pugnacious critter will be on end of your line....
think i'll add a 32 tooth/inch hacksaw blade to my 1st aid kit......no bulk/weight, no help with embedded hook but if it went all the way through, this could salvage a fishing trip from early abort. ????

I'm not going try to hold still while anyone hacksaws a 3/16" stainless hook from my hand (or nose!)!! We all agreed our safety equipment on the boat should include a set of boltcutters. I'll bet I could sell mine to someone with a hook in their body for $100 just to keep your sawblade away from them!!

Maybe it's time to have the Safety Equipment Discussion again to start the year right

what, the "no sniveling" part gets thrown out when we get hooked? (sorry, couldn't resist)
point (no pun intended) well taken....not sure I'd want to hold still while i hacksawed through a hook stuck in me! bolt cutters may not be a feasible option, though, for us folks in smaller boats like yaks and inflatables, and might be tough to operate one-handed when fishing solo.
hacksaw blade would be more in category of "better than nothing" when it's a long damn paddle back to Rescate...... i've had to drive self to E.R. while holding face together with bloody towel after a dog attack, and maybe go overboard on the self-sufficiency thing. i figure you'd only need to nick hook enough to create weak point and then flex til it broke. hope i never have to find out.
you could probably get the $100 out of hooked primates even without me around waving the hacksaw blade at them, but let me know if you want me to pose for a pic to scare em into holding still for the bolt cutters....
sorry for thread hijack....yes, it would be a great idea to do updated discussion of Safety Equipment the Coast Guard Hasn't Thought Of
