Iam looking for some wire line for trolling. I heard 80# was a good weight but have also heard 60# was the right weight. I have looked on the net with out much luck. Any ideas or info on this subject would be cool. I am coming down right after Christmas and need to find some pretty fast. Thanks Mike

Pancho's had it last year - you really only need 50# or 60#. I have 50# on the 113H and 60# on the 114H. I use 600 feet on mine for two reasons - to keep the connection to the backing from going out when you get a bigger fish, and if you start with only 300 feet (standard spool size) and get a tangle/snag and lose much, you don't have enough left to fish properly. I usually troll 200 feet out for fishing 100 foot or less depths, and 300 feet out if I'm trolling the deeper water.
I HATE WIRE, but
it does catch fish.

I just use banana weights with bead chain. I carry 4-6 oz ones. I run a 2-3 foot length of fluorocarbon between it and a Mirro or Yo-zuri.
Yeah, it's another knot but I dont lose fish to knots. I catch em off of San Anton when I'm down there. Cant get quite as deep out at the island but then I just switch to jigging if they're that deep.

| I just ordered two spools of 50# from Cabela's. They are 450 feet each and pre color marked every 50 ft. $ 49.99 per spool was the cheapest I could find. Connecting them together I use a haywire knot on the monel and a modified albright on the backing that allows them to go thru the rod just fine.

I have actually used both, Monel and regular stainless - for the difference in price and the limited time I use wire, I would consider using the cheap stuff.

The price of monel has gone up 75% this year. My price on 300ft. is now as much as I sold 1000ft. for last year. If you can find it cheap, better buy it. Stainless wire has only gone up 10%, probably a better buy. I have stainless in stock, long out of monel.

Thanks for your reply, I think Im going with stainless. Like Craig said it just isnt worth that much money for the 1 or 2 times a year I would be using it. Thanks again, Mike
