Matt Blair told me about this and I had a hard time believing it.  Still boggles my mind that six guys could do this.  The following was copied and pasted from sportfishermen.com.

Cabo San Lucas Mexico , 4th November 2007

World Record 179 Striped Marlin Released and 1 Sailfish

After the Bisbee's Black and Blue Team Reelaxe with the Brazilians went up to the finger bank for some fun fishing and striped marlin fishing.
The Team released 61 striped marlin in one day. Seeing this called Dave Brackmann and advised him and we decided to fly down and fish it.

We left the dock at 3.00am with 6 feet seas and only 14 knts heading towards the Golden gate and made +- 60 pcs bait then headed up to Finger bank 54 nautical miles from cabo. We arrived at 8.30 am after a head sea and winds but this started to die down when we arrived.
Anglers - Dave Brackmann, Steve Brackmann, Alex Rogers - Jose Espanoza , Saul Contrearus, Dennis and myself. Camera's rolling onboard Reelaxe we found the marlin crashing the bait balls and we were hooked up.

We had Released 102 fish by 12.00 noon with Dave successfully releasing number 100 but were running out of live baits. We had to run 3.5 miles away each time in search of bait, made macs but lost many sabiki rigs due to marlin taking them full with macs on. Making 5 runs back to make bait each time took 2 hrs off our fishing time as the marlin, seals and dorado were splitting the bait balls up and took longer to make bait as the afternoon progressed.

We fished our tournament tackle that that we used in the
http://www.wcbrt.com with 14 Melton Custom rods GTN 40lb fitted with Shimano reels, Torsa's and Trinidads spooled with 30 lb Spectra tuff line topped with Berkley high test and 8' 0 Eagle claw circle hooks using live bait and dead bait including fresh Ballyhoo.

The bite was non stop wide open in a wide area on bait balls from the time we arrived , doubles, triples, and quads. An absolutely amazing day of fun fishing with some great guys, we all live for days like this and certainly suggest anyone sitting there reading this should get themselves down to Cabo and experience this for themselves.

At 5.10 pm every bat, bird, seal, porpoise and marlin disappeared, we tried to slow trol live and dead bait but the bite shut down as quick as it had started. Left the area 6.30pm and back into Cabo by 7.45pm

Pictures attached are of Bait balls with breaking marlin all over, Dave releasing fish and the team. The CD and underwater footage and video will be edited and online as soon as we can get it done. Dave the the team will post with additional pictures and comments.

What a day!  Here is the link to the site.  You have to register to see pic's; http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/f9/179-marlin-1-sailfish-released-one-day-cabo-san-lucas-mexico-world-record-27512.html

Any of you non circle hook believers still out there?

I was in Phoenix Fishing supply last week and they said they have video of the entire day.

They have cameras mounted on the boat.

I was down there with potential club memebrs this past weekend and we went to Golden Gate and got 7 marlin 4 Dorado and 1 Tuna. The Marlin are everywhere.

The average boat on Friday got 11. We were below average because we had sone chummers.

We will be giving sea trials again in cabo for the Sea of Cortez Boat club 11/30-12/1 if anyone is interested in the club.

About this same time last year I went to Cabo and spent 10 days with my wife..fished 3. One day I did the same basic trip..caught cabalitos at the bank then went to finger reef to fish. Found a big bait ball as well. Ended up hooking 11 striped marlin and bringing 7 to the boat. Also 2 dorado. Looks like that is the place to be about this time of the year. Actually, I have had pretty good luck at Cabo in December and February as well. The common thread here are the live baits dropped back to them. One time off the east cape we dropped live baits down about 150  feet on a reef to catch them...they were not on the surface that day. But when the cabalitos hit a certain depth, wham, you had a marlin. Always used J hooks...guess the circles are the way to go. When 6 guys can catch that many marlin on one day all I want to do is copy, copy, copy. I cannot imagine a better fishing day than the one they had. Congratulations to all.

Here's another post from that same area, dated November 15. Sounds like I need to figure out a way to become a member of Sea of Cortez Boat Club and fish Cabo in November....Reelly I have to figure out a way to pay for my kids college and then I can think about the 33 Bertram ready and waiting in Cabo. Happy Fishing. MB

"Finger Bank Bite still wide open"

Yesterday Karma 3 beautifull brand new Blue hull Scully with Cpt. Daniel Alverez took his owner and 8 anglers up to the Finger bank and had a fantastic day releasing 85 striped marlin. Wind has died down water temp 82 and the bait building up after the winds.
Another boat also had a record day releasing 91 striped marlin - will get the name as shortly.

Here is the latest, courtesy of the Outdoor Section of the Orange County Register on November 13: (excerpts of text)   Some might have been skeptical about the 179 marlin caught and released in one day, but not those who took a trip on the Polaris Supreme just recently. Mike Mayes and 21 other anglers couldn't help hooking marlin while trying to catch yellowfin tuna and wahoo on what skipper Tommy Rothery called "an absolutely fantastic, unbeliveable day". Mayes called it "insane" since they hooked and released 220 striped marlin...and that was a conservative count. "The marlin were so thick that they would take a bait as soon as you cast it. You could see them crashing in the area of at least three square miles...as far as you could see!" As many as 15 anglers were hooked up simultaneously with marlin, while casting Raider lures for the target tuna and wahoo.

The marlin were found west of Isla de Santa Margarita below Magdelena Bay and averaged 80-120 pounds with some at 200 pounds. Rothery told Mayes he had seen a similar school of marlin about 10 years ago, never has he seen a school of this size stick around the boat for two days. " Some anglers were cursing: not another marlin!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My comments: this is probably another indication of the effect climate change is having on these fish, and driving them to San Carlos as well for a longer pelagic, warm water fishing season. We might also hope that the reports of the longline impacts on marlin off the Pacific coast of Baja may be somewhat exaggerated.

The bite is still on.

Contender One who won the catch and release division of the Bisbee was back with 7 other boats fishing against all the winners of each tournament this year.

"A made for Tv tourney".

On Friday they caught 26 at the Golden Gate.

Many boats still catching 7-8 per day out at Golen Gate trolling live bait.

The finger was stil very godd if you wanted to make the run.

Hi Steve

I talked to one of the anglers from the world record setting team.  Boy, I thought I was crazy about fishing!  These guys are from another fishing world.  They average Marlin releases in under 3-minutes.  The Lucky Ducks is a perfect boat, in a perfect place for setting a new record and learning Cabo techniques.  Then you can enlighten the rest of us……is it May yet?
