I'm looking for information on where to stay, charter boat captains, restaurants, etc. for the 2008 fishing season. I'm a fly fisherman and want to hook up with my first billfish. A good friend was recently in your town and couldn't say enough about the good people he met in San Carlos.

Muchas gracias,

A great place to start is on the main web site at http://www.sancarlosmexico.com.

You will find lots of info there that might lead to specific questions.

Thanx

Hey "Tight",

Tell us what you want and we can better help:

1. Lodging - 5 star, or a place to rinse off fish slime?

2. Charters - pure fishing, or luxury. Air conditioned salon, or 25' walkaround?

3. Restaraunts are easier, but what kind of food, and before or after you rinse off slime?

Fly Fishing:

1. A good man on the teaser rod who can pull a billfish onto the running board.

2. Cabin cruiser that's set up with out riggers and a HEAD. We fished San Jose del Cabo in July using a 28' California.

Hotel: comfortable and clean, we're fishing not pampering wives.

Restaurant: CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN with comida picoso y chelos frio. Yo no quiero La Tourista.

Word on the fly fishing street says SC has a resident population of fly rod size pez vela y pez marlin (Stripeys). As we are new to the game, having many shots at MANAGABLE size fish "es mas importante".

Muchas grcias por su ayudar

That is one you would have to talk to Steve about - his boats are all 25's, but he works with other charters if something different is required.

Hotel: comfortable and clean, we're fishing not pampering wives. The Creston is clean and "spartan" at about $500 pesos. The Best Western and Los Jitos are frequently brought up as budget priced bargains also.

Restaurant: CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN with comida picoso y chelos frio. Yo no quiero La Tourista. Tequila's, Rosas, Bananas, and for the newest local hangout, The Club de Capitans has good stuff, good prices, and good company (if you can call fishermen that).

This year was a BONUS year on sailfish and they outnumbered the marlin for most of the summer. Previous years, the striped marlin were here in bigger numbers than the sails - who knows what next year will bring?
