I was out today but didn't head for the tuna. I heard a couple boats into them at 30 miles.
As for my report I headed to the island after a heading of 210 to the reef. Then started trolling chartruese on one line and pink/white on the other straight to the island. Didn't see a thing. Water temp at 12 miles was 73.5 about 5 miles south of the isalnd it was 74.5 and then back to 73.5 at the island.
There were a few other boats trolling close to the island with a bonita here and there but nothing to speak of. I metered a lot of fish at 75 feet in 150 feet of water but only one taker on a jig. Most everyone was trolling rebel type lures as was I. Nada.
On the way back spotted a handful of dolphin. Had to get back in a hurry so no fishing, straight run.
Seas were fairly flat with a few rollers here and there. Did see the damnest thing though. About 13 miles off shore a very small area of whitecaps that looked like a boat wake. No boat within many miles, no fish, no dolphin and the caps were going AGAINST the rollers. Just lasted a few minutes. Never seen it before.
That is the small boat report...

| What did you get on that jig? Sounds like the temps are droping. I've always done fairly well using plain old cedar plugs - seems to work well for a variety of species all around the globe! Thanks for the info and if you hear anything else, I'll be around til Friday AM. Thanks

Just some type of rock fish I think. Didn't keep it. Was metering around hoping to find something of interest, yellowtail but didn't find anything.
At the 15o foot mark at 75 feet there were fish jsut stacked up though...don't know what they were but wasn't yellowtail marks.

Some tuna, dorado, and marlin out there. There are still marlin in closer in the green water. Saw a couple sails. One boat had twenty marlin come in at once. Had trouble hooking them and getting them to bite today on our boat, but finished the day while walking my dog with an 8# corvina off the rocks - yum.
The bonita, sierras, and yellowtail are out there if you can find them and figure out how to attack them correctly. Get some of the deep diving Yozuri crystal minnows in black and white and get up early, or not.
buena suerte

Sounds like fun - love to catch the corvina, good fight pound for pound. I use a one oz cast master w/ a white bucktail w/ a red tie. Pull and reel or jerk and reel. The buggers always seem to hit at the drop . Great fun! Still wondering about the location of the Yellowfin tuna - I think its still too early for the yellowtails although one might be able to coax one off the reef. Can't wait to get down there this weekend and get a line wet be it on or off shore!!!

I am coming to SC next week for some fishing..the water temp report has me a little nervous. Anyone taking temps a little further out? Are dorado, sails and marlin still there in 75 degrees?
Thanks,

Terrafin shows surfaces temps yesterday afternoon of 80-82 at 25-27 miles out on the big temp break. It is moving west and south every day , but still there . I'll be fishing next Tuesday and Wednesday and will post how we're doing.

I will be there on Tuesd, Wed and Thurs fishing with Catch 22. I am staying at the condos at the marina. We can compare notes. Thanks for the readings...82 degrees makes me smile. After reading about the great Oct fishing it would be a real bummer if I missed it.
Thanks again,

| If you're going with Steve then you shouldn't be worried about finding the fish. Sorry, but the yellowfin aren't staying in one spot for very long. I'm beginning to believe that most of the marlin are in the colder water down to 75 degrees. Sounds like the tuna are running a little bigger now.
