| I will be out with Steve soon and just bought a 12 wt fly rod and reel. Does anyone around there fly fish? What can I expect? I have been tying up some what are basically huge decievers in blue/white and green/white. Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

| Does anyone have any suggestions on patterns? I've had fair luck with bucktails and streamers of various sizes and colors. I'll probably bring a fly rod with me when I come to San Carlos in October.

| Anything on a #2 long shank hook, especially if you have some flashaboo or mylar on it. Hope you have a lot of backing on that reel especially if you are targeting the yellowfin.

You will never believe this!! Steve gave me a white rabbit fur fly.. Clients had excellent success on Dorado with it.. I hooked a big ole Striped marlin...
We have had success on Dorado & YT's with just about anything..
The 12wt rod is ok.. Be sure the reel drag is efficient and will hold 2-300 yards of backing...
Be sure to keep the rod tip low..

AcuDoc,
Yes the 10wt will work.. Keep the tip low.. Our rods do not have the lifting strength the hardware/bait rods have..
Same on the reel, good drag & lot's of backing...

I just bought a TFO Bluewater. The reel I have is a Galvan T-12. From what I hear they are amazing especially for the money. I just couldn't spend 900 bucks on an Abel.
Thanks for the tips.
