We will be down in SC soon and will be out fishing. Pretty much everyone on the boat get sea sickness to some degree. What works best to elivate that? I know about dramamine, but it makes you really tired. Thanks everyone.

| Some in my family get sea sick. We have found that chewing on dehydrated ginger works great. Or I believe you can actually get ginger capsules at health food stores. Hope this helps.

| Bonine from any US drug store works for me and my brother with no apparent side affects. I heard good stuff about ginger as well but I am to afraid to deviate from what works for me.

Go to any pharmacia in SC and get Vontrol - the instructions are in spanish, so you might want to google it to make sure of precautions and dosage. It works better than any US otc preparation - it is sold as an aid to persons with inner ear afflictions and works well for the equilibrium problems associated with "mal de mar".
Good Luck!

Ginger is probably the bets natural substance for preventing seasickness. Studies have shown that it may even work better than dramamine. We use ginger in cooking a lot. Ginger root is in most produce sections of US stores. I've had problems finding it in Mexican stores. We grate it and make a tea out of it. A little honey makes it better tasting. I'm told that ginger snap cookies and ginger ale work also. Ginger is good for quelling other types of nausea also.
My mom used to give me ginger ale when I was throwing up from the flu and it worked. It reportedly has other medicinal properties and there's no side effects known. I also like fish fillets steamed for 10 minutes with fresh gound ginger in the water. I don't know if that would work for seasickness, but it sure is good with a little garlic. Enjoy your trip, and catch lots of fish.

I am changing my recomendation
6 vontrols 6 tecates the night before
forget about fishing
hang out at the pool
Vontrol
Generic Name: diphenidol
Dosage Form: Tablets
‘Vontrol’ may cause hallucinations, disorientation, or confusion. For this reason, its use is limited to patients who are hospitalized or under comparable, continuous, close, professional supervision. Even then, the physician should carefully weigh the benefits against the possible risks and give due consideration to alternate therapeutic measures.

I'd say non-drowsy dramamine and modelo, preferably modelo light. One when you head out tends to do the trick

I used to crew on the Wild Goose, John Waynes old boat. We would hand out the "sea sick" wrist bands. They worked so well many people would not return them.
The instructions state something like place the "button" 2 inches above the wrist in the center of the wrist. To be more precise place the "button" 2 cun (1 cun=1 body inch) or 3 fingers above the transverse crease of the wrist between the tendons. You can also massage this point too which is actually what the band does with your movement...acupressure.
What they don't tell you this is an acupuncture point, Pericardium 6, that has been used for thousands of years for stomache, nausea, vomiting etc., there are others indications as well.
How do I know, my name AcuDoc as in Acupuncture Doctor, Masters Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine...blah,blah,blah...
Hope this helps

There is a new one out available with prescription. Forget the name and which magazine I just saw it in. Maybe someone can help (Marlin or Western Outdoors?)
Easy on the Vontrol (low grade speed?).
