I have to disagree, I think the long lines will be around for a while longer which means that Dorado will become more scarse as time goes by. The shrimp boats have replaced the pangeros, diesel is cheaper and they can stay out longer. They also make good money from the turtles that they catch on the lines. The small subsitence long liner is certainly at risk of loosing his job to the larger scale factory long liner.

Gentle man, and Gentle women, I have been invited to a meeting with the Mexican Bill Fish society in Mazatlan on the 10th of April. As I have mentioned in emails and posts on this thread before, sometime after this event in Mazatlan Guillermo will come to San Carlos for a meeting of interested individuals to explain what he has done and how we can help him in the fight for sustainable sport fishing in the SOC. Anyone who is interested in attending this meeting and supporting the efforts, please, now is the time to let me now!!!!!
For those of you who have not heard of Guillermo here is a link once again to an article written by Gene Kira about Mr. Alvarez.

A couple of additional small steps we could take locally in San Carlos:
1/a few restaurants still have "marlin tacos" on the menu. Complain vigorously to the owners and let them know you won't be eating in their restaurant again until the marlin is removed from the menu. (one such restaurant claimed it really wasn't marlin, but I was not convinced)
2/We are moving to circle hooks for tounaments and that is a good move. However, one more suggestion is to either eliminate the points for ANY killed marlin in our tournaments, OR raise the pound limit to 300.
