Has anyone heard anything difinitive regarding the Passport to Mexico law? I heard somewhere it will go into effect January 07. Will this Negate Kilometer the Bribe stop @ Kilometer 21? I am hopefully headed down in Feb. But if we  need passports I need to start that now I think. Any Canucks out there that can advise how to get my wife a passport, She is a resident alien Canadien. Passport would have to come from Canada, eh?

I have heard nothing about the need for a passport to enter Mexico, except it is one of the items you can use to get a Visa.   A Passport will be required for entre into the U.S. in the future.  If your wife is a Resident Alien, all she normaly needs is her Resident Alien Card.  If she is Mexican then her Passport would come from Mexico, or from what ever country she is from.

The new law has nothing to do with Mexico.  It is a US requirement to enter the US.
In Jan 2007, you will need a passport to enter the US by air .  The requirement to have one to enter by land or sea does not go in effect until 2008 and has already been pushed back to the Jun/July timeframe.

Check http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html for more information.

Yes, your wife will need a Canadian passport if she is a Canadian citizen.  The new rule applies to those arriving from Canada too.

And you will still need to obtain a tourist card at 21km or other Mexican port of entry. See our Travel information page on the main web site.

She will use her Resident Alien Card and Canadan Passport to enter the U.S. in the future.  She will need both to enter.
