Steve,

Thanks for all your great fishing updates; it is most rewarding to those of us not in San Carlos.

I hope you are wrong about the top water fishing however it is cold here in Tucson right now at 48 %.

Let us know how things are  on your next report!

Thanks,

Tom

Mel, looks as if bontia is a plant sometimes used as a hedge, possibly floated in from Hawaii, maybe the bonita were all on the opposite of the bontia. We have neither here in Wyoming, so I'm certainly not a pro on the subject. I do think I had a brain freeze here today though. Only poking fun, hope to get down in about a month. Ron

The locals cook down the meat with onion, chili, tomato and seasoning to make taco stuffing. It looks like shredded beef and, it tastes like beef to me.

Well Thanks to Steve I have started lying to my wife.  For the last 2 weeks she has been concerned because of the moaning and primal sounds that have I have been making when checking this forum (I tried to blame the sounds on her cooking, but that didn't work so well). She has forbidden me to check the forum, forcing me to do it when she isn't home or I'm at work. She calls and asks me if I am on the forum to which I reply "naw honey I'm looking at Porn".  "Ok well as long as its not that darn fishing site". So as I sit here eating taco bell, can anyone recommend a good divorce attorney?

Hi Jimmy...the Bonita we are refering to is not like beef at all, is excellent eating! white meat...looks pink like tuna before cooking, but turns out white and tasty!! I think the ones you are referring to are skipjack, dark and oily and sure looks like beef.

Here are 2 pictures of bonita that show more clearly the differences in the stripes....also they are not as round as the skipjack and have differente teeth...

cheers,

Fernando

You are right about the skipjack but there is a bonita in So Cal that is dark meat and oily. Not many like it. If you take the skin off and cut out the blood line (very dark meat strip) its not bad and make okay tuna sandwiches.
The Cortez bonita is different and you will end up with a good tasting white meat as already posted.
