We will be in SC 12/26, i want to take a crack at the Corvina's..
We will be using fly's.. Do we need to use sinking line & streamers??
Or surface poppers??
Several fish in the Mar are called Corvina. Does anyone have a picture?? Genus? Family? Species??
Do they have a long dorsal fin??

Hi Catch 22!
I was reading about corvinas at Marina Real...are they still in? Where exactly are the new docks and how does one get there? Any special time of day? I'm new to this forum and really enjoy the way you all seem so friendly and help each other...Thanks for the info!

| Craig, I see you're on here early this morning, is the lure, softbait you're using the same as behind you in your picture? Also, I can see the spinning outfit, is that mono somewhere between 12# and 15#? We will be down just before New Years for a little while, will they still be there? Thanks, Ron

Good Morning Ron!
Yes, I am sitting here in the dark, fishing electronically! The lure you see is one of the ones that worked well - a 5" Tsunami pearl shad. We used similar softbaits in chartreuse and sardine colors with good results, 4"-6", Tsunami and Storm brands. The line is 12# with a 40# leader - they bit off several before I tied that on. I use a Shimano Calcutta 400 with 17#, on an 8' Allstar rod - the spinning rods were for my Mom and son-in-law who are "conventionally challenged"!
I have heard for two years about the corvina around Marina Real, but Thanksgiving was the first time I actually fished for them. From what I understand, they will be there through the winter months. We caught them both mornings we went, fishing from about 7AM-9AM, right after the tide turned and started going out. I don't know if that's the best/only time, but it fits with patterns for fishing shallow inlets and estuaries. We also went to Marina San Carlos at sunset one evening and caught 6 fish before dark, using the same stuff off the rock wall near the fish cleaning station. They were not as big, but we did get some that were 4# or larger.
Good luck and let us know how you do!
Craig
