Pancho's Baja Tackle in Tucson has just received their stock of wire line, both Monel, and stainless steel. We have 300, 600, and 1000 ft. rolls. We can install the wire if you wish.

Dennis, I will be by to pick up a spare; 300' roll of 50/60 monel for the Yellowtail bite (if there are any YT left) sometime after Christmas day. So please save one roll for me. FYI....Craig/No Sniveling has some suggestions as to leader, connections and rigging for wire trolling for YT. My problem has been some break-off's at the troll and I believe my leader rigging/drag has to be modified....On the lighter side, It would be nice if there was a "University of Tail/SC"  to take "Tail101" from some of  the esteemed "Professors of Tail".  All kidding aside, I beleive that this would be well received and attended.

Alexander,

Dennis has a great idea for the connection from backing-to-wire; I am going to change mine when I get there this week. Have him show you when you pick up the wire. I have always used 1000 feet of wire to avoid having my connection come through the guides, but with this connection, I would not worry as much if it had to pass through. Net result would be more backing and less wire required, though I would still use 600 feet of wire, as I routinely troll as much as 300 feet out. From the trolling end of the wire, just use a haywire twist (google it for diagrams) to a good ball bearing swivel - you don't want your wire twisting if the lure gets knocked for a loop or collects weeds. I use leader that is 10# test lighter than my wire - better to lose a lure than to test for weak spots in the wire and lose to much of it to keep fishing. I use a double San Diego knot to tie the leader to the swivel (6 foot leader) and a coastlock snap with the same knot to tie it on. I troll with a lot of drag (25-30% of line strength) to keep them from going straight into the rocks. Other than that, I use two similar lures (different colors) when trolling two wire lines - same size and brand, and make sure they are tuned to run straight. If you use two different lures, it seems they invariably swim differently and end up tangled when you make a tight turn - NO FUN! The big 113 Mirrolure in Fire Tiger is my favorite, and CD18 Rapalas in FireTiger, Natural wood, and Red Head are also great. I have a whole arsenal of Rapala XRap 30's that have not been wet yet, so I'll have to report later on those. If you don't see me list them for sale, they are probably my new favorite! Not much else to it!

Dennis/Poncho's Baja Bait&Tackle, I will take "No Sniveling's" advice and ask you to hold a 600' of 50/60# monel wire roll for me. You might as well reel/spool-up this wire and show me your knot/connection (wire line to backing) when in Tucson........I build my own leaders for fly rod/streamer presentation in "Freshwater" column depths of about 3ft. to about 20ft. and much of this fishing in SC is a new experience for me.  I really appreciate Craig's/"No Sniveling's" suggestions for wire/YT rigging. Alexander/Fishhead........."Muchas Gracias"

Alexander,

I would much rather fish "the iron" than troll wire, but as a pescadorian prostitute, I will do anything to get bit!

Buen suerte!
