:X I second that, WTF?  Of course I also enjoy a nice fish dinner myself; however, now with scientific proof that eating fish is good for you I feel the World's oceans will see the impact of even greater commercial harvesting. Quien Sabe?

Bart, did you pull up this web-site?  5 metric tons of dorado a day?  It brings to light what's going on and what many sportsfishermen have wondered about concerning the long lining by pongas: who is financing them, how the fish are handled (doubt that) etc. Is it legal or is it all being done under the shark norma - brings up another issue "what sharks".  Haven't seen any lately. Sad, sad, sad.

I have saved the page and printed it. What I believe needs to happen now are a couple of things. We need to take this info directly to Conapesca and ask them what they intend on doing about it, which I am sure will be nothing. The next thing we can do is flood Agriseeks web site with hundreds of emails a day asking them to stop dealing with fisherman who break Mexican law. If we get no responce we should perhaps try to flood thier server with thousands of emails a day in protest. I am sure there is a Canadian law that forbids Canadian companys from buying fish illeagally caught in other countries. A call to the Canadian Attorney General would be in order as well.

Fernando, would you like to go with me to the office of Conapesca this week and bring this to thier attention? I will be out of town next week but have some time this week.

Let me know.

Vince

Count me in Vince...in fact I talked to a friend about this, he already had seen it and took some action, the info has been passed to a guy who writes at a newspaper and he is doing some research and preparing a note to publish and bring this to the general public's atention. How can someone go braking the law and even annoincing how he does it all over the internet?

Vince here are my numbers:

Vince, were you and Fernando able to go to Conapesca this week?  Would like to transfer these comments on this subject to the viva san carlos fishing board but not knowledgeable enough with the computer.

I have not been able to go to Conapesca do to work schedules. It is on the list though but I doubt we will have any effect on the situation by complaining to Conapesca but I am interested in what they have to say about the issue. I would also be very interested to hear Julio Lubbert defend himself. Sport fishing is a small part of my business but I wish the company's that focus on Sport fishing and the local mexican sport fishing captains would form a coalition to address this problem. The commercial fishing lobby in Mexico is strong and organized. The sport fishing community of San Carlos could be a force to be reconned with if it would organize and find a unified voice. Amigos del mar de Cortez was a positive step in the right direction but that organization really no longer exisits. We could learn a few things from the sport fishing and conservation groups in Baja sur. What is needed is someone or group with the time, energy and resourses to organize the community and keep focused on solutions to the problem of long line fishing here in the area.
