Should i purchase a downrigger? NO - too much to deal with.

Teasers? Used for billfish

Excellent information above!!
How about the volcano?
Is the volcano any good for YT?
How deep is the volcano?
Does anyone have the GPS coordinates for the volcano?
Thanks

Yellowtail will usually be in shallower water - the volcano is almost 2000' if I remember right. You find them near shoreline structure, over reefs, and around kelp paddys. Usual fishing depths are under 400 feet, and I have hooked them in 30 feet off San Antonio Point.

Nope - the return traffic will be 1-3 hours in line, usually tapering off by 1/15.

| I would agree with everything posted here especially concerning the downrigger. I have had very little luck using them for YT, I've had more luck with them for sailfish. One alternative to wire line that I have had success with is to use spectra when trolling with any deep diving plugs (I personally like the smaller rapalas in the mullet color) and troll them way back behind the boat. When using this set up, I have had as much luck (or more) than others in my boat trolling with wire. I like the fight better on the spectra also. Just my opinion though.

Thanks - I am going to have to try that. I just didn't think it would get as deep as the wire. I bought downriggers recently to try to get rid of the wire, but soon discovered there is more to them than just clipping your line on and "PRESTO, you are 100 feet deep!". If you find the orange 10# ball with 42' of wire and a Cannon clip, sitting in 100' of water off the south tip......it's mine.
