Where can I buy #80 test wire line for Yellow Tai?  I need 2 spools of 200 yards.  I tried 4 places in Tucson and noone carried it.

Thanks,

You probably do not need 80# wire-50-60# will work just fine.  The stuff you want is monel line.  Available on the web at most major tackle outfitters.

Ended up ordering Monel on the internet.  60# 1,000 feet for $79.95.

Thanks all

MexicoMel

PS: The same here in town was $149.95.  I can understand a profit but that's absurd!

Helo Mexicomel
you may be right. a lot of things are more expensive here in mexico. specialy imported things. dont forgett that a lot of things have a high import-tax . maybe 36 to 38% , plus the broker fee, plus the fright (from the states to nogales arizona and than nogales san-carlos, plus the sales tax 15% and than still the people may need to earn something.

you may got it cheaper , but you will bring it in as a personall good with no mexican taxes attached.

that is how most foreign tourist cross their things in to mexico.

i hope also that trade between mexico and the united states could be like a free trade agreement. but until now for normal living "mexicans " nothing realy has changed.
oo..... i forgott ! we are so happy to be now members of costco and sam's. and also to go shopping at a proud american store like walmart (i call it dumping and bying stuff that are made in factories al over the world where labor are abused and kid's are hired).

mexicomel , this is not to offend you. but i am only trying to explain , why some prodcts are more expensive here.
and yes , also the "mexicans" like everybody else , are not perfect.

enjoy sancarlos, saludos hans

Now that you found the monel, and discovered how expensive it is, here is a tip on rigging it.  Don't load the reel with monel-Load with spectra or dacron backing in 50-60# and put on a top shot of maybe 100 yards of monel.  Studies have shown that if you run the monel any longer than that the drag of the water will actually cause the monel to rise, defeating the reason you bought it in the first place.  Use an albright knot to connect the monel to the backing.

Good luck with the YT

Deep subject!

A lot of the benefit is the sheer weight of the line - 300 feet out gives about 1 1/2 pounds of line in the water. Basically, it will run your lure or bait deeper than standard line with a sinker on it. Downriggers will work also.

Bart:  Thank you for the great advice.  I will tell my Captain Sonny and we will take your advice.  Going to go after them this coming weekend. weather and water permitting.
