OK, we are done with the billfish tournaments for 2006 - why not a yellowtail tournament? Weather permitting, some of the smaller boats could compete more easily. Costs would be lower without the 70 mile trolling days and the big fuel bills. No one would get heat stroke or sunburn...and the fish weighed in could be donated to feed the local charities. They hold one at San Marcos - Santa Rosalia every year - check out the results on MexFish.com - the only bad thing is we might attract Kid Jurel (Mike Kanzler) from San Marcos and have him show us how to REALLY catch yellowtail. Has there ever been any conversation about a tournament during the winter???

The only one that I know of is a free dive spear tournament that some have participated in-no boat tournament or trolling tournament that I can recall. Not to say we could not start one.

Now that the boat is gassed up and sitting at Marina Secca, and I have a trained Capt. and new Diawa high speed reel ... ;-)
Deal me in!

No Sniveling,
There is a breath-hold spearfishing tournament scheduled tentatively for March. The Third Annual Yellowtail Open. All you need is a wetsuit, speargun, and solid set of juevos. We'd love to have you join us, and any others who may be interested. I'll keep this site posted for more info.
PS - I get nervous just thinking of getting into that 58 degree water, and diving through the green....maybe a boat tourni would be a good call.
Happy fishing! Matt

Matt,
I will be talking to Dick this weekend about trying to get something put together, since I GET TO GO FISHING!!!!! I'll put up a response and let everyone know if we get any brilliant ideas.
As far as diving in the COLD water, I will volunteer to clip you on my new downriggers and tow you past San Antonio if you want? We could drag you until you spot them and take some of the work out of it!

We could also have weekly, weekend bottom fishing jackpots, largest Calico, Grouper etc. Each participant throw in $100.00p. Just need someone to organize it. I nominate Steve Calvert, he's the best!

Thanks for the offer Craig. That sounds like a blast, however it sounds more like you'd be trolling for White Pointers and using me as bait.
